Trade deadline

It takes 2 to tango, as they say. I have no idea if the FO wants to make deals now (I agree they should be looking for upgrades right now), but it doesn't matter if nobody is willing to trade now. Rebuilding teams want to create bidding wars to be able to get as much return as possible in prospect capital. And contending teams want to pay as little as possible so aren't going to offer up more prospect capital in early June than they want to. It's not so much a Twins FO thing as it is a baseball business thing. Trades for elite relievers or starters (I'm assuming you're not just asking for more mid-level guys like the Twins are full of, but actual difference makers) just don't happen now.

I am curious to see if Madbum gets moved. He likes Arizona and has a full no-trade clause, so he would have to approve a destination. Definitely do NOT see him as a clubhouse fit here, but he is pitching well and I'm sure AZ wants to unload that contract.

I don't disagree with your point, but teams aren't usually willing to make trades until much closer to the deadline. Especially with the expanded playoffs, it's gonna take a while for most clubs to fully decide if they're buyers or sellers. I don't think it's impossible they could make a move now, but I'd be really surprised if anything happened before mid- to late-July.

PIT might be open to move Bednar now if we give them something they like. But a frontline SP will be difficult to pry loose until closer to the deadline, they'll try to milk everything they can.

The Pirates still control Bednar for 4.5 years. I can't imagine they'd trade him for anything less than a Royce Lewis type of return.

You make a very good point. But I think they'd settle for 2 or 3 lesser prospects in a trade.
