How many do you expect in a year? Ober, Ryan, winder, and smeltzer are all rookies. Let's at least be realistic, or not. Up to you.

To start with, Smeltzer isn't a rookie.

None of the other three are currently active, although that doesn't really address your point. Winder has proven nothing. 2 pitchers doesn't a pipeline make.

The point, of course, is that planning on the minor leagues to supply you with everything you need is pretty hopeful thinking. Even if I read a million times this winter it would.

They signed two starters and traded for two. How is that planning on the minors?

It's June and people are desperate for bodies. How is that a pitching pipeline?

I'll wait for an answer to the question. But I'll answer yours....too many guys got hurt to realistically expect them to be deep right now. Unless you think they should have five or six starters ready in the minors all the time. Which I'm guessing will lead to you always being disappointed. Because it seems unrealistic to me.

Bringing up bodies isn't what was meant by "pitching pipeline. "

“Bodies”? These are two of the team’s top prospects and they’re knocking on the door.

The team has already been forced to use ten starters, how many were they supposed to roster? Can’t imagine a scenario where a team can fit a dozen capable MLB starters into the rosters. What kind of quality pitcher is cool sitting in AAA without a guaranteed roster spot?

I'm not disappointed in the "pitching pipeline" because I put little stock in it to start with.

I'm not big on minor leaguers. I distrust most, particularly pitchers. I think Duran was a great bet to fill a bullpen spot because he has incredible stuff.

Beyond that, Ryan has always been someone I think deserves being depended on.

But the "pipeline?" Get back to me when it starts spewing good MLB pitchers.

By your own post above, these 2 are at best starter numbers 11 and 12. At best. Canterino hasn't thrown a pitch in the 5th inning yet.

How is that supposed to encourage me?

Well lucky for him, pitching into the 5th inning doesn’t appear to be a prerequisite for this club. And it appears to be by design, not because he’s incapable.

Ryan, Ober and Winder have been good. I’ll trust them and the other prospect arms before I trust the kind of vet pitchers who would otherwise be waiting in line in St. Paul.

And the reality is Sands is doing what we kinda would like him to do, but he needs to throw more innings. That's why I wonder if it would be any worse to give the "other" rookies a shot - even if it the Yankees - than a grizzled AAAA guy. Of course, knowing Rocco, Tuesday - at home - is going to be a bullpen game against the Yankees since we have 10 relievers on the roster, three with three+ days rest!

Never forget. Evidently you have. Your complaints will fall on deaf ears here.

Not sure what that has to do with a pitching pipeline, but whatever.

The point is, if we have tapped out in June, it wasn't much of a pipeline. We're not even bringing up prospects. We're bringing up Cottons.

So Cole Sands is most likely to start against the Yanks tonight? Aaron Judge, Mike Rizzo, and Giancarlo Standon must be shaking in their boots. This series may very well go just like the Houston series. Easily swept at home in embarrassing fashion only to hear the fan base use the injury excuse and pretend it didn't happen.

No Ryan, No Ober, No Sonny Gray - speaking of Gray, we haven't really seen much of our big off-season trade piece all year, have we? A few games here, a couple games there. Mostly on the IL. Not a complete flop, but I think it's fair to call Gray's injury issues a major disappointment at this point.

I wouldn't mind seeing the team do to Sands what they did to Jax. He had a good track record in the minors until this year, but he was always unlikely to end up as one of the top pitching prospects.

They better give Sands a mild tranquilizer before the game tonight. He's probably in way over his head. I hope the Roc has the pen on standby right away, and he doesn't let Sands get torched for too long. I honestly don't think we have a snowball's chance in Hell to win this one.

Wow, ugly matchups. I guess that's what one has to expect form a team down its #1, #2, #3, and #6 starters.  I just hope we can find a way to win 1 game out of 3.

More than that … if you count Paddack … Ryan, Gray, Ober, Paddack, Winder
