Yet people think this team is built to win in the playoff  . . . and would never consider trading Correa.

The bullpen is the easiest and cheapest thing to upgrade at the trade deadline. They're not going to waive the white flag, trade the star shortstop and call it a season just because the bullpen is subpar.

But Duran, Smith and Jax are looking good. Soon they'll have Acala back, and my guess is Archer will be there by mid year.

There's a pretty huge difference between being a competitive team and needing to upgrade one part of the team, compared to trading away your best player and dashing all hopes of doing anything in the playoffs... they're allowed to add to the bullpen.

Well technically we would probably need to improve both SP and RP to truly compete.  You are correct it does not preclude us from getting relief pitching at the deadline,  it also doesnt preclude the organization from prioritizing future years.  Even if they did trade Correa it would preclude them from doing other trades to help the ball team this year.  Their trades this offseason were a blend of buying and selling, and I could foresee a similar approach.

I agree it is the cheapest area to improve.   I don't think waive the white flag more rearrange the deck chairs.   Possibly improve this years team and improve prospects in the pipeline and using prospects as tradebait that may be lost in Rule V.

You also forget we will be getting Kenta Maeda back.

Ryan and Gray are good enough to throw out there in a playoff series and have a good chance to win. Ryan is top ten in the AL in WAR right now. Neither are Corbin Burnes, but there are only like 3-4 guys in all of MLB in that tier. Bundy, Ober, Archer...Eh, no, but at least Archer has been there before and has good stuff to get through a lineup twice.

We don't need more prospects. We don't have room for the ones we have.

Buxton catches that…

we didn’t deserve to win this game anyway.  Oh well. Another series win. 4-2 against KC and DET so far. Need to go 10-5. On pace.

Really? It ain't over until............
