Anderson was comparing himself to Jackie because of the dearth of African Americans in baseball; not because his play was comparable.   That's part of what makes Donaldson's comments so offensive.

After your response, I spent about 15 minutes searching and eventually found the interview.

https://www.si.com/mlb/2019/04/30/tim-anderson-white-sox-speaks-out

Tim Anderson compared himself to Jackie Robinson because Tim Anderson is breaking the barrier of fun and I saw this comparison being made by Anderson several times since. Essentially, Tim Anderson is just like Jackie Robinson because Jackie broke the color barrier and Tim is breaking the celebratory barrier. Two takes on that. First, Tim Anderson comes across as disrespectful towards Jackie Robinson to me. Comparing what Jackie Robinson endured to the chastising for high flying bat flips seems tone deaf to me. Second, there have been a lot of baseball players who've been very expressive and broken those types of barriers before. Honestly, the Latin American players have led the way on the celebratory and emotional expression front in MLB for the past decade and have made a major impact in softening the unwritten rule blowback from emotional outbursts.

I can't find anything which supports your position.

Donaldson was ONE of the few players who showed ANY fire for the Twins last year. Others went through the motions and collected paychecks!! He got mad at his own failures and the teams. Twins need more emotion like his!!

Well said and overlooked.  So many on here like to kick him because he hated losing.  Don't understand how many have blamed for last years mess.  It's like posters read other comments and just say oh...that makes sence.  Or I read it somewhere so it bust be true.  Lol

Everyone should just listen to what Judge said, he hits it spot on.  And he doesn't shy away from saying it again even after a private apology from JD.

Think whatever you want about whether Anderson should've made that comp in the first place, dropping it in the middle of a brawl after you kneed the dude off 3B and spent the series chirping is, at best, pure stupidity.  He did it to upset Anderson, knowing why it would upset him, and then a totally BS line of reasoning to excuse it.

I'd have had a lot more respect for Donaldson and his intentions if he had just said "I got heated and wanted to say something nasty because I was pissed off, but I crossed a line I shouldn't have.  It wasn't ok, I'm sorry."

Why should Donaldson apologize?  What is his offense?

So, your argument is last year Donaldson he was the one player with fire so we should inject more players like him.  This year (without him) the players are all competing very hard and the team is successful.  None of us really know but the circumstantial evidence suggests Donaldson's presence did not promote the type of chemistry that promotes winning.  We have a whole team that is playing hard and playing very well without Donaldson so it's very difficult for me to conclude his type of personality is the key to success.

Despite the fact that this writer opened this article mentioning Donaldson’s altercation with Anderson, this article is about the trade and where we are now with it. This is not a discussion about whether or not Donaldson’s comments were racist. So let’s move away from that because we cannot seem to have a discussion about that without getting overly defensive and snipey with one another. Those comments will be removed going forward as you’ve all said your piece on that. Back to the trade.

i was upset when Donaldson was traded, and for whom, and that it wasn’t just Donaldson but our newly acquired SS AND our catching depth. I thought this was another one-sided, horrible trade and the Yankees just found another way to beat us. But at this point in the season I’m saying ‘Donaldson who?’ I’ve always liked Donaldson as the player and always wanted him on the team for a lot of the reasons mentioned here. But that was more the Donaldson that went from Oakland to the Jays, and that’s not who he is anymore. And I think he wasn’t fairly judged or reported on by a large portion of the writers here. That said, looking back where we are right now in the season, I’m really good with the trade. I like having Correa and Urshela on the left side of the infield over K-F and Donaldson. Both Urshela and Sanchez have performed better than my expectations. But the only part of the trade that still niggles at me and that was losing Rortvedt.
