FWIW, if the season ended today, our first round opponent would be the 27-26 Angels.

Speaking of teams built like the Twins... I don't think there's a scarier dark horse postseason team than the Angels. All it requires is Ohtani and Trout to engage their video game cheat modes and they could go deep into the postseason.

I mostly agree but baseball is more random than most sports, and by a lot. Just getting to the postseason counts for a lot more than the Wolves being a traditional eight seed or the NHL, where I believe no eight seed has won the Final other than the Kings in 2012.

Yet in just the past decade or so, three Wild Card teams have won the World Series (going from recollection here, excuse any mistakes). Obviously, fewer teams making the postseason makes it easier for those who do make it to win the championship but more than any other sport, baseball’s randomness of just getting there brings you pretty close to a championship.

Because, more than any other sport, there is no more popular flux between what is “required” to win year to year than baseball. And the reason for that is because there are a dozen ways to win and you just need a lot of luck in the margins to do so.

But aside from all that, you don’t think a lineup with Buxton and Correa can make noise in the postseason? I’m not sure what could in your opinion if you believe that.

Disregarding record, in the Runs scores column, they’re ranked 4th, season to date, and in the runs allowed, they’re ranked 4th in the AL

that’s pretty good. This team hits well, fields really well, and pitching has been effective. Yes against lesser opponents, acknowledged. However the post season starts typically get shorter and the bullpen pitches more.

this team needs some help in the bullpen, bullpen pieces can be found on the roster and traded for at a lower prospect cost than starters.

with some health, and finding some relievers, this team could make a strong push in the post season.

hopefully we get to see a strong showing against some tough competition

I'm going to point out that the next 17 games are still crucial.

While it would have been nice to have left scorched earth on the fields of our division, it will also be nice to hold our own against the cream of the crop.

This feels like a proof by induction. Every set of 17 games will be crucial, especially the ones in the play offs. (i really should look up the new play off format)

All true, it's more random than other sports, and teams don't really have a "style," of play a la football or basketball. That said I can't look at two decades of playoff ineptitude and a historic postseason losing streak as things just not going the Twins' way. This fanbase, more than any, should know that getting in isn't enough.

Oh, in no way am I suggesting the Twins are fine if they back into the postseason, only that getting there gives a decent chance to win or at least go deep.

But improving the team at the deadline raises any team’s chances.
