I just saw they he's getting called up to start tonight's game. Didn't see anything about a corresponding move. Maybe there isn't one.

It will require two corresponding moves: one to clear a spot on the 40-man roster, and another to open a spot on the 26-man active roster.

Paddack went to the 60, Sands was optioned, I believe, but that could have been to make room for Arraez

Thanks CRF for posting this. Bringing up Smeltzer is looooooooooooooong over due. Smeltzer had the edge being in ST that much sooner and he has capitalized on it, pitching very good throughout this time. But the Twins didn't capitalize on him, leaving him in AAA. Smeltzer could have used together w/ Winder in long relief but  Baldelli has always overlook long relief to his fault. Even after we no longer need him in the rotation, he should still stay on the 26 and 40 man roster as a long RP.

Welcome back Smeltzer, wish you a long & prosperous career with the team.

Was rather hoping not to have to dip this deep into the "depth," but here we are. In mid May.

Teams need to try a different approach at keeping pitchers healthy. The current protocols may have the best intentions, but they're not working. In fact, I don't think there can be any doubt things are worse than ever. And getting worser.

No doubt Smeltzer's best role is as a long/mid bullpen arm. He was surprisingly solid as a backend arm in 2019. He had a bad disc in his neck that lead to loss of feeling in his left hand in 2021 and ruined his season. If I'm not mistaken, he made a comment that "something" popped up in 2020 from his previous cancer battle that affected his 2020. Sorry if I'm not recalling 100%. He had a healthy and quality ST this year. He's been pretty solid for St Paul thus far in 2022. He's about 8th on the current depth chart, but injuries happen and sometimes you have to dig that deep, even if it's one game. But I don't think he's exactly a sacrificial lamb in this game.

The Twins need Thielbar to keep doing what he's been doing the past few seasons, and so far this season, for as long as he can. The Twins need Moran to establish himself ASAP for 2022 and beyond. There are a handful of LH arms coming up that are "interesting", and they need at least one to establish themselves as a quality BP piece to join Moran. But Smeltzer has a chance to stick for a season or two as a mid/long guy. With Coloumbe out for now, tonight could be huge for him going forward. Time may be running out for him.

Smeltzer proved he belonged on the active roster after his impressive 5 IP tonight.  Only 3 hits allowed with 1 ER on 77 pitches.  With Coulombe still on IL, it makes sense to me to keep Smeltzer as a long relief option and potential SP, especially considering that neither Archer or Bundy (before Covid IL) have performed well enough to secure a solid role in rotation.

Maybe not the proper thread to bring this up, but imo, the conversation needs to start VERY SOON about demoting Miranda.  I think he's a key player in our future---even later this season------but he needs a re-set at SP.  With now at 40+ ABs, Miranda's woeful batting average (.114) and awful OPS (.379) indicates to me he needs more seasoning at AAA.  I'm hopeful that Correa's return will happen next week on road trip to OAK.

Should that occur, with no other injuries-------Royce Lewis stays on the active roster.  Lewis' RH bat, speed and quality defense justifies regular playing time.  Though others may disagree, I believe Lewis can move over to 3B with Urshela moving into a time share at 1B with Arraez.

Soft tissue injuries are up 19% from 2019, The change for next year is no lock out. Players bear the responsibility in the off season of continuing strength and flexibility training. It would appear that is lacking in many cases

He pitched well. I'd like to see him get another start because he earned the right to show he can do it again.

He may not get that chance if Bundy comes back.

If choosing between the two of them. I am currently team Smeltzer.

Can I be team Canterino? I know it's early in the year and would be unexpected, but I like pitchers who can crack 90 MPH.
