MLB.com power rankings BS

I know these are fluff pieces and click bate but if mlb.com can let Rosenthal go then the person who does thier rankings should be next.  How do the Twins go 5-2 and take over 1rst place in thier division and fall from 19th to 22nd in the rankings at mlb.com?

I know it’s absolutely bull crap but on cbs sports website for mob power rankings we went up 8 spots so maybe mlbs website is just weird right now. But we should not have gone done the twins are first in the Al central swept the white Sox and button walked them off but yeah I don’t know why mlb put us down after sweeping the white Sox. And slays bunny’s performance that should put us up. Button went four for four and yesteryear day 2 for 5 with 2 home runs.

The Athletic has us at 19 today and it's pretty clear that they're not paying attention. No mention at all of our horrible offensive start, and several paragraphs about our lack of name-brand pitching and how screwed we are with Sonny Gray injured. Could've been copy-and-pasted from opening day with an added blurb about Buxton's heroics yesterday.

I don't see how they could have gone backwards after winning 4 in a row but having them at 19 or 22 this early in the season isn't out of the realm of possibility.  They are 8-8 which put them around 15 or 16 in the league.  4 other teams are only a game behind so depending on how you feel about the Twins long term you could have them behind those teams and others.  It is kind of too early for these ranking to reflect much IMO.  

Still if it were me at this point in the season record would be my main determining factor but I suppose if offense is all you look at then the Twins would be lower.  Not sure what criteria they use for these things.  Maybe favorite color factors in or the teams they generally like or maybe it is some scientific calculation they have come up with hard to say. But moving a team down after a four game win streak might be one of the dumbest things I have heard of to this point.

Winning streaks and how the team plays week to week affects their standings from week to week in some capacity.  They do give weight to expectations but for only so long.  With us being in first we should be higher up.  Being in the 14-17 range seems like where we should be.  We were also 5-2 for the week.  I think expectations should keep Chicago higher ranked but for the time being we should have closed the gap some.

None other than the owners commissioner  , Rosenthal was good for the channel and good for baseball  period  ,,, baseball  is in decline and the MLB channel is still good but not as good  .....

 

I'm not to concerned to nit pick at the rankings this early  in the season , I'll wait until towards the seasons end

ESPN just put out their power rankings for this week and the Twins are 17th, right behind Chicago, who they just swept. Oh well. I predict the Twins will be in the Top Ten by the end of May FWIW.

I think we all get a little too emotional when we're on losing and winning streaks. I'd probably put the Twins around 13th-17th.

You know you're posting this comment on a "fluff" website right?  The nice thing about power rankings is that they mean absolutely nothing.  You want something to make you feel good about your team?  Watch them play.  Power rankings will be sorted out in October.

The Twins were likely ranked low due to their magnificent performance in LA. Anything beyond that is tempered by their record from last year. Just as with prospect ranking, the location of the team matters, press coverage matters. It is a click bait world and Minnesota is not prime territory, even if there are fans in off beat places like Oklahoma
