I think there's still considerable skill involved in the pivot, regardless of the baserunner.  DPs are often pretty close and a poor transfer will cost the out.

I agree with this.  I think the shift has been a bigger change to the pivot.  2B are often not in a position to make the turn anymore.

At Hahvahd Yahd, naturally.

The new freshman at Harvard approached another student and asked, "Where is the library at?" The other student said, "This is Harvard. We don't end sentences with prepositions here." So the freshman said, "All right. Where is the library at, *******?"

Hopefully it's a good springboard for him.  They may need him for a while.

I do remember a thread last year in July or August where people were discussing who was the better prospect between Kirilloff and Larnach and a lot of people thought Larnach because he was getting on base more often. Larnach struggled mightily after that, but I still think he can be a really good corner outfielder.

Weird.  When I asked that on a visit some years back, the student told me, "at Harvard one is expected to be able to read a map for oneself, and not bother one's betters by asking."

Agreed.  I do think Kirilloff will be the better player.  That's assuming he can come back from the wrist injury and stay healthy.

Yeah, but Kirilloff has to get through that injury and that could be a tall order.

Calling it a day. Timely hitting (or any hitting, really) isn't there today. Winder was really good, so I'll chose to be happy about that instead. I predicted a 3-1 series victory, with this one being the one I had as a loss, so my prediction is still in play. Need Ober to give us 5+ innings tomorrow.

Until tomorrow fellas,

Happy Easter

How did Winder look? His stat line looks pretty good for someone called in to pitch extended relief.

Grooved one to Bogaerts with a runner on, otherwise he was pretty good. Threw strikes, decent velocity and at least two of his pitches (fastball and slider) sure looked like major league pitches.

Coming late to the thread after text/listening with a friend. Some bad news for sure, but Winder had a needed extended outing (and pretty good for his second MLB appearance against a very good lineup). Nice to see some life from Larnach (who could go a long way to fixing the corner OF issue is he can realize  his potential). Tough to win when you don't score, though. (3rd hit from Larnach as I type.)

Offense seems to be the limiter on this team (the pitching has been okay). Game over.

Correa needs to get it going a little bit. He's as cold as ice right now.

Cut him.  Let him and Upton sip Long Island Iced Teas at poolside for the rest of the season.
