Kirilloff to the IL

Recommended Posts

Ugh. For everyone that says picking hitters is safer from an injury perspective, here is anecdotal evidence otherwise.

I feel bad for him. He showed what he can be before being hurt, and it just sucks being hurt. Good luck to him! Here is hoping he doesn't need more surgery, as surgery just sucks.

Crap, crap, crap.  Boooooooooo!

This kid could be special.  Reminds me a lot of Kubel before he got hurt.  Beginning to mirror Kubel's career too bloody much.

Also see that in addition to Alcala on the IL, Baily Ober joins him there.  I guess that solves the 6-man rotation problem.

Also waived Cotton, who I thought was doing ok.

Would love to trade for Bryan Reynolds. Tried to find a trade on MLB Trade Values. Problem is Reynolds has an 85 rating so short of trading Ober, Ryan and Larnach we can't get there and even that's not enough. have to entice the Pirates with high upside pitching. How about Winder, Sands, Strotman and Larnach for Reynolds?

Why does this organization need to trade for a corner outfielder, though? They already have loads of them. If they're desperate, I'd rather see them call up Austin Martin than trade away from a position of need (pitching).

Maybe that's a better answer, although they have Martin playing SS in AA.  Not sure I see "loads" of corner OFs though. Larnach is a question mark after last year. Frankly. so is Kirilloff based on performance to date although that might be injury related.  Who else is there? At AAA the other OFs are Cave, Garlick, and Contreras. Two journeymen who have shown they can't be everyday MLB OFs and a guy who might be good but only just showed something last year. AA, we ahve Wallner, Sturgeon and Julien, only one of which is hitting over .200. At the MLB level we have Kepler who doesn't hit much, Celestino who hasn't shown he can hit at the MLB level, an Injured and previously ineffective Kiriilloff, and Larnach who hit .223 with a .672 OPS last year, went to AAA and didn't hit there last year or this year so far. I really wonder if this surplus of corner OFs is real or just a hope.

I'd be fine if they give LF to Gordon for the time being.  He was hitting in ST, improved in CF when forced into it last season and brings the speed dynamic.  He doesn't have the greatest arm, but Correa can just line up a bit deeper on the cutoffs.

Nick doesn't have any options left, so give him the chance to earn it or set sail in the offseason.

It could be the opportunity to have a guy become a true super-sub like Marwin or Chris Taylor (neither of which did a whole lot until their age 26 season).

I haven't seen anything about Ober going to the IL. I don't think that one is happening.

When I went to the Twins transaction page, Ober was listed as going on the 10-day IL.  After seeing yours and other comments, went and re-checked.  It isn't there now.  Gotta believe that he was listed by mistake, and I saw it before the correction.

I have been worried about Kiriloff.  Following his minor league career he was down with injuries a lot and now we have two years in a row.  I am hoping Buxton stays healthy, but otherwise two with injury histories is a challenge to the roster.

Let's hope Larnach gained some skill and knowledge for his return trip.

We really do not have much in corner OFs at the moment.  Maybe in a couple years, but for immediate service we are hurting if Larnach cannot regain his confidence and if Kiriloff continues his health issues.

The pirates traded for Chris Archer.  Maybe we can start with him and them and see if they sweeten the pot.

I was just thinking last night that Kirilloff's slow start was improbable, given his extremely well-trained swing. Now we hear it's the wrist again. Damn, that's the kind of nagging injury that can really screw up a player's career.

Can the ligament be replaced with teflon-coated kevlar? Kidding...sorta.

The worst is what was reported during game today is they cannot pinpoint any one thing that has led to the wrist issue.  If his wrist can never get 100% back he will never be able to play again.  I have always had huge hopes for him, but he needs to have strong wrists to hit and clearly that will be an issue.

Really bad news about Kirilloff. I was one of the people calling for him to go back to AAA since he really did look bad and overmatched. In a sense, it's reassuring to hear that his problem is an injury; really bad because it sounds like it could be a longer term one. Even worse, we have no one to replace him that looks even close to ready to play every day in the bigs. Maybe Arraez, but Rocco doesn't want him in the OF. Sounds like this is the best opportunity that NIck Gordon will ever get. Hope he runs with it. Time to think harder about Upton?

After his slow start (including ST) I was honestly a bit worried that his wrist was still bugging him. Hate to see the confirmation.

Some quotes from AK:

This really scares me. At least, with Buxton, it's all fluke injuries and apart from those happening again there is no real reason why he shouldn't be healthy going forward.

With Kirilloff, we're at the point where you have to call these wrist issues chronic. And no one seems to know the exact origins of his troubles or how to deal with it going forward. The fact that even surgery didn't get him to a point where he could play pain-free seems worrying.

I just hope this doesn't turn into a career-derailing issue. At the moment I am not very confident, though. ?

Thank you Jesus......I literally threw up a little in my mouth when it was posted.  LOL

Overall I say Gordon is our best bet in LF, give him a shot there.
