Everybody's favorite Tortuga tossed a shutout inning for the Marlins tonight.

Just called up his stats, and his total career line looks pretty good if it was one season of ball. Boy, he sure doesn't strike out. But 16 homers in 170+ games and 500+ at bats. Even a stolen base.

Plus, as shown above, he can be the emergency pitcher!!!!!

Brent Rooker recalled by the Padres.

Rooker got a couple more days of Big League service time, but no at bats!

Remins me of the career and hype we had for Mike Restovich and before that Dave McCarty all those years ago.

B.J. Boyd has been signed by the Angels out of Indy ball. Erik Manoah Jr. was released from the Braves organization and signed with Lancaster in the Atlantic League.

Tyler Jay has found work after an absence of a couple of seasons. He was a first round draft pick by the Twins back in 2016. The lefty is pitching now for the Joliet Slammers in Indy ball.

NELSON CRUZ is hitting .219 33/151 for The Nats with 4 homers and 19R/23RBI and a .603 OPS.

Reports of Nelson Cruz's demise may be premature.  If this has been reported elsewhere at TD I missed it: since May 7, his OPS has been 1.020.  His putrid April leaves his aggregate season OPS at a non-Cruzlike .761, but this is progress for our old friend.

CHI CHI GONZALEZ becomes the next EXD-TWIN! Waiver claim by Milwaukee Brewers. Goodbye, Chi Chi. Two games and gone! But...you are a Minnesota Twins alumni!

If he's on their 40-man then he's committed to them.  But supposing they later waive him and succeed in an outright assignment to AAA, can he still invoke his opt-out clause and shop for another team?

An opt-out is immaterial now that Chi Chi is on a major league 40-man roster. He can’t be optioned so he is with the Brewers until he they would designate him for assignment resulting in a major league claim or the right to declare free agency

Former Twins NICK VINCENT (Braves system) and SERGIO ROMO (Seattle majors) have been cut from the organizations.

Former minor league prospect Chris Mazza has been removed from the 40-man roster of the Rays. Iam Krol was released from the Padres system.

I need to find a way to take away the jinx I accidentally put in Nellie - a little help?  In the 7 games since, his OPS has been..... unmentionably bad.

Good to see Cruz rebounding, he seems like a logical trade candidate in a month's time. Washington has no need for him.

Oops, that last was meant to be a reply to you.

Not good when the marlins let you go.  Maybe orioles.... Pittsburgh.

Miami is not doing that bad. 32-38. The problem is that in spite of being a fan favorite he's a marginal baseball player, he's not physically fit, and he'll be 31 in October. I don't think any contending team would have a spot for him and rebuilding teams won't spend their resources on him.
