Celestino promoted, will be on Twins 28-man; Winder also confirmed

  • Celestino is a roster management tactic.  Delay having to make a 40 man move until things shake out.  He needs to be in AAA, not because he can't play a useful role here, but because I believe that he could become an everyday player with development
  • I'd prefer Garlick to Upton.
  • Burning two of Celestino's five annual call-ups is pretty close to a non-issue for me.

Is the limitation is on call-ups, meaning if we exceed the limit, he is stuck in AAA? If we are worried about this limitation, then we are better off starting him in the majors so as one less call-up is required , right?

It isn’t call ups. It is options out. He won’t be stuck in AAA but he might end up on the major league roster where the only way back is through waivers.

Thanks for answering my question. Now there are a set of in-season options as well as option-years. And it makes sense to model the new restriction after the other tried and true restriction, which probably means if they are on 40, an option is used in the beginning of the season if they start ij the minors.

None of the starters are stretched out, even the vets. My guess is Ryan, Ober, Winder and Duran are all going to be getting enough innings enough for evaluations on May 1 when the rosters cut down. At least one of them gets sent back to St. Paul but for now they'll let these guys compete against each other. As much as I'm excited to see Ryan (and Ober), there's next to no chance their rotation spots are cemented.

Ideally, they all crush it at the MLB level and Bundy is the one who's sent packing.

That's all fine and dandy but let's be honest:  With 16 pitchers on the roster, nobody's getting stretched out as a reliever.
