Are the Twins done making moves?

We definitely need more starter depth and as the off-season isn't over AND this FO may just have a Hitchcockian penchant for suspense, we may just have to sit on our hands.

It hit me today that the Twins need to thread quite the needle if they want to both contend this year, and give all their pitching prospects enough of a fair shake to decide who to protect next offseason. When a team is rebuilding, they have the luxury of giving prospects long looks at the MLB level. If we're trying to contend, how many games can we risk to try out our Winders and Balazovics?

How are they not at least adding Cueto or Archer at this point? They won't cost much, they're worth a flyer. Even if Winder/Bundy/Ober/Ryan are all great and we don't need them, we're out what $5 million at most?

You were saying? ?

I was under the assumption the A's were rebuilding and needed an everyday 3B as part of their youth movement.  Wouldn't Jose Miranda be a perfect fit in Oakland in exchange for Manaea?   Where is Miranda gonna fit in if we don't deal him?

I still believe he'll be moved prior to opening day.  Thoughts?

(I'm not suggesting a one for one swap, but those would be the key guys).

Welcome to TD! Great first post!

I agree that Miranda would be a good fit, but he’s also a need for the Twins as early as later this year. That is my assumption why that deal hasn’t been done already.

To clarify, do you believe Manea will be traded prior to opening day?

In the Chapman trade, Oakland got back SS/3B Kevin Smith. Not a top prospect, but he had a 144 wRC+ in AAA last year, with 18 steals too. He's likely to fill 3B for them on opening day.

They also have Zack Gelof -- just a 2nd round pick in 2021 but he made it all the way to AAA by season's end, and is in big-league camp this spring. He may slow down but they've treated him like a fast riser so far.

Not that Oakland wouldn't be interested in Miranda, but they're probably still holding out for the best overall value return rather than addressing any particular position in the short-term.

Yes, I believe so.  The A's made it a priority publicly to move Manaea BEFORE dealing with Montas, and I think they will do it sooner than later.

Welcome to TD!

But I wouldn't have much interest in trading a top prospect like Miranda for Manaea. He's a free agent after this year, and the Twins rotation needs way more than just Sean Manaea to bring home a World Series.

Manaea and Gray would be like the #3 and #4 on the White Sox, Astros, Blue Jays and Yankees teams. He'd improve the team sure, but not nearly enough.
