Whose idea was it for the Twins to sign Correa?

According to an article on the Twins official website the idea came from Scott Boras.:

"Considering all of those factors that could lead to Correa's success and potential to win in Minnesota, Boras reached out to Twins leadership on Friday with a more creative proposal that wouldn't involve the extreme long-term commitments that would take the Twins out of the picture. Instead of the more anticipated megadeal over a decade or so, the sides ultimately ended up with this current structure -- a three-year, $105.3 million agreement with opt-outs after each of the first two seasons."

Also, Boras is quoted as saying this about the Twins:

"It was very easy to explain to Carlos, ‘There’s a lot of things about the Twins that a lot of people don’t know,'" Boras said. "They have an organizational skill level that is really, really hidden. There’s a lot of Twins and Twins that are coming up. Let me tell you, they’re really morphing into something."

Gee, this is almost chillingly cryptic. Is there an underground lab somewhere producing future Twins all-stars/Boras clients?

?

Or maybe I'm just not used to outsider compliments about this organization hitting the media. I hope he's right, by the way. I'd love to see 0-18 morph into 10-18 just this postseason alone.

I'm probably one of the bigger Boras supporters at this site. He's a very astute observer of the sport.  Still, flattery like that resembles perfume - something to enjoy the smell of but not swallow.

I agree with Ashbury.  While the Twins do have a solid offensive core and a lot of potentially viable Major league arms coming up, there is no way to know how it will all turn out.  I think Boras is an exceptional salesman and it was just a good sales pitch for Correa.  Certainly there is some truth to what he is saying but what the future holds for this Twins team is far from certain.

Nice to hear him say good things about the Minnesota Twins and nice to hear former players have had really good experiences when they have been here.  It bodes well for more players wanting to play for my favorite team.

For myself though I never take what Boras has to say too seriously.  He always has ulterior motives IMO.

Oh, I never listen to anything Boras says. He's a self-aggrandizing windbag. He's also incredibly successful and possibly the best agent in pro sports but whew, is he a weird quote and an unreliable narrator.

I believe the term is bull**** artist. Which appears in the Oxford dictionary as one of the definitions of ‘agent,’ I’m pretty sure.

I think Boras reaching out to the Twins with the concept/framework makes sense.

Including a team that would not risk a 10 year mega deal almost guarantees that Correa will be the center of a bidding war next offseason and reduces the risk to Correa on a true one year deal. It’s almost a can’t lose situation, and a whole lot of dough in Boras’ pocket in ‘23.

I'm not a fan of Boras, but do have to give him some due. I think Correa/Boras could have gotten this deal from a number of other teams, including some that more likely contenders, but chose to reach out to and agree to sign with the Twins.

Well, credit due yes, but a savvy move, too. Look how well he hit at Target Field. Positioning your client to (hopefully) have a monster year at the plate certainly won’t hurt in obtaining Correa’s long contract desires from someone. But, whatever the motivation, glad he’s ours for at least a year

Boras probably represents a lot of our up and coming prospects.  So really he is speaking well of his clients.

from the article linked in the comments above "The superagent represents Royce Lewis, Alex Kirilloff, Austin Martin and Ryan Jeffers -- four cornerstone pieces of the coming years who will likely all be in the Majors by 2023.

Then again it was against Twins pitching.  He'll continue to do well but not sure those Twins stadium numbers will hold up.

Agreed, I think the Twins were a target. Beyond need at SS, there was a reason. It might not be the reasons stated, but this was no “accident”

THis does several things.  It helps relations with his new client as the others with the Twins will talk well of him.  It does well in that his other clients are excited by the transaction creating more loyalty, It does the sport in general well.  more interest.  it does himself well in that he gets all of the commission on correa's next contract.  And now Twinsdaily has more Boras supporters which is his biggest benefit to this whole thing.

This article is terrific. Gives a behind the scenes view into how it all went down. Certainly the Twins indicated that they were looking for a SS and had payroll flexibility, but Boras has to reach out to the/a team first. The twins made the first offer at 3 years, 100m, no player opt outs.

There have been various TD members here arguing that Twins might have to take a gamble on a low year, high AAV contract, to get one of these guys. And here it is!

Correa has missed some time but he is the real deal in the field and at the plate and especially in the clubhouse, as we are learning. It’s gonna be fun!

He plays a great beat on a trash can. It amazes me how all is forgiven if one puts on a Twins' uniform.

Correa is still who is always is and was. Great for the clubhouse?

Good to know that Falvey was not the braintrust for the deal. Credit where credit due. No need to fawn over his "amazing" deal making when it wasn't his deal.

And now for the rest of the ........Story? Nope. No Story in the house.
