2022 PECOTA Standings: The 2022 Twins can be Great

The Twins traded their best two right-handed hitters? Byron Buxton would like a word. :P

He should have stated that they were the two best "full-time" righthanded hitters. Part-time players usually aren't included in discussions.

Knowing the Twins way they will opt for Pathway #4.

That got me too. It's an insanely narrow path, though.

Thoughtful pathways here. Good stuff. We'll see if any of these options are taken.

Personally, I can't wrap my head around the idea that a pathetic 73-89 team can:

a) lose it's two top starters

b) lose it's three top sluggers

c) become defensively weaker in the IF

d) sign not a single impact FA pitcher

e) face improved competition in its division

and still be projected for an 11-win improvement. Now that's fun with numbers! Let the games begin and these projections can be put to the test.

EXACTLY what I was thinking. Well said

We? Just an example. Check all you want. It will just confirm it. (The link shows all the divisions for 2021. Plenty more right there for starters. Braves, Giants, Padres, Diamondbacks, Cubs, Cardinals, Mets, Red Sox, Angels, Mariners, Nationals, Rays..... about half the predictions not even close...... )

League-wide, they did VERY well.  I think it came out almost exactly at .500, just as predicted.

Byron Buxton has played more games over the past three seasons than Mitch Garver (admittedly, it's close).

Fangraphs now has them at 80. I'd split the difference.

In @John Bonnes, "gun to my head" fashion, I'll take the under on 84, but I'm not putting money on it.

There are much better over/under bets on the table that you don't have to lay money on a such a narrow margin as PECOTA offers.

Now, the Yankees under 98 and the Red Sox over 83, those are good bets. And the annual Angels under is looking strong once again. The Tigers over looks good too. PECOTA doesn't seem to have any glaring misses in the NL from a quick glance. Maybe an over on the Giants?
