Kernels no-hit Beloit. Duffey throws 7 perfect

Recommended Posts

Tyler Duffey threw 7 perfect innings against the Snappers, but was pulled after hitting his pitch limit (he threw 76). Jesue Montanez survived the 8th inning despite walking 3 and giving up a run, but not a hit. Tim Atherton struck out 3 and walked 1 in the 9th.

Byron Buxton was a HR short of the cycle and Dalton Hicks had 3 hits, including 2 doubles.

I honestly don't know much about our fifth round pick from last year. Does Duffy have former accolades or a track record that might lead us to hope that he might be a legitimate pitching prospect?

Duffey was the "2" in the 1-2 RP punch drafted from Rice University (along with 2nd round pick, JT Chargois- who is ranked as the #11 Twins prospect). The experiment begins this year with a few of these relievers getting their shot at becoming starters. So far I think it's fair to say that the experiment rates a success!:jump:

Jeff Johnson of the Gazette has another article on Duffey's performance well worth checking out.

Mom would have been proud of this performance | TheGazette

I'll be heading over to Clinton Saturday and, based on the Kernels' 6-man rotation, that will be Duffey's next start (absent any rain-outs, etc.). It will be interesting to see what he does for an encore.

Wait, so you have two names? That is you who wrote the story for MSR, right?

Yes. SD Buhr is my "evil twin"... or I'm his evil twin... bit of a split personality, I guess.

I've been blogging at Knuckleballs under a pseudonym for several years and I was asked to help MSR cover the Kernels this summer. Naturally, I need to use my given name for those purposes.

I'll also be providing a weekly Kernels Report for TwinsDaily. Look for that under the SD Buhr account starting, I believe, tomorrow.
