Twins Lose Another Minor League Coach to Big-League Job

It was just announced this afternoon that St. Paul Saints hitting coach Matt Borgschulte has been named a Co-Hitting Coach for the Baltimore Orioles today. Borgschulte joined the Twins in 2018 after time in the Cardinals organization and at SW Missouri State. In 2018, he coached in the GCL. In 2019, he had that job for the Ft. Myers Miracle. In 2021, he was named the hitting coach in Triple-A St. Paul. 

In recent years, the Twins have lost the following minor league coaches to big league jobs: 

David Eckstein - minor league hitting coordinator became the Pirates hitting coach, a position he held for about 3 years. 

Peter Fatse - minor league hitting coordinator became the Red Sox assistant hitting coach in 2020. Just last week, he became the team's hitting coach. 

Tanner Swanson - minor league catching coordinator became the Yankees catching coach in 2019, I believe. 

Am I missing anyone?

Obviously Jeremy Hefner was the Twins bullpen coach in 2019 and became the Mets pitching coach in 2020.

In addition, one of the Saints pitching coaches, Michael McCarthy has joined the San Diego Padres organization as their Triple-A pitching coach...

They lost a couple of minor league coordinators: Michael Thomas, who went onto the Astros system, and Donegal Fergus, who coached team Irlenad, during spring training. 

 

Robbie Robinson became the Mets catching coach for minor leagues after the non-2020 season. Ray SMith and Jeff Reed lost their jobs  after decades with the Twins system. Stew (Stu) Cliburn sepnt nearly three decaeds with the Twins, went to Taiwan in 2020, and joined the CHicago Dogs (American Association) as pitching coaco 2021.

Did the Twins keep any of Elizabethton's  coaching staff? I think the manager simply retired when the Elizabethton team was zapped. There were other minor league teams, which were eliminated, which created a lot of of jobless minor league coaches and managers from the purged teams..
