DANIEL PALKA is still playing and signed a minor league deal with the Mets. The Twins traded Chris Herrmann for him in the winter of 2015. Had a couple of decent minor league seasons, then a waiver claim by the White Sox for 2018, and he had a shining year (with too many strikeouts) before becoming a minor league regular.

TOMAS TELIS has signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers. He was a possible go-to catcher at AAA for the Twins the past two seasons.

 

He actually did get the call as a COVID replacement player for a very brief moment, officially on the Twins 26-man roster in 2021. No at bats.

CHRIS MAZZA, who was traded by the Red Sox to the Ray last seasons, has a minor league contract with them for 2022. This one surprised me because they basically shut him down late in the season because he was struggling so much... but good for him. Another opportunity.

The Twins resigned former minor league free agent pitchers Bobby Milacki and Matt Mullenbach to minor league contracts. Both pitched at Ft. Myers last season.

 

Pitchers Wladimir Pinto ws signed out of the Tigers organization, and Mario Sanchez out of the Nationals. Both pitched at both AA/AAA ball last season.

 

Catcher Dennis Ortega was signed out of the Cardinals organziation. He caught at AAA ball. Outfielder Kennie Taylor played at three levels A/A+/AAA for the Mets/Mariners last season.

I like the idea, but I think it has to do with their status at the end of this last season.  For example, Dirty Sox wanted to hire/sign Adam Eaton as a coach since he retired after the season.  However, since he was technically an active player at the end of the season, he is covered by the same rules as signing a player currently in effect (or so I read I believe ?‍♂️) and is unable to be hired as a coach until a new CBA is in effect.

Twins signed free agent Elijah Greene, once of the Angels and last sumemr of the Diamondbacks. The outfielder was put on the Cedar Rapids roster.

 

Not to be confused with Eiljah Green.

 

Former Twins catcher Juan Centeno signs a minor league contract with the Diamondbacks.

Twins sign Brandon Lawson, a 27-year-old pitcher who seems to be floundering in AA ball, which is where he will probably start for the Twins in 2022 as he tries to find his mark on a career path to the majors..

Tim Beckham signs a minor league contract with the Twins that will pay upwards of a million bucks if he makes the team.

 

The former Tampa Bay first rounder is a shortstop who can also play other infield positions. Sounds like he would've been a 40-man signing if that was possible. Maybe this is the Twins attempt to find a temporary shortstop (on the cheap). Maybe just depth (although the Twins have to find shortstop reps for the top tier minors for Lewis, Palacidos and Martin).

JOHN HICKS< who played for the Red Wings in 2016, has signed a minor league contract with the Cubs. He found a new career, mostly as a first baseman who could also catch, with the Tigers and Ranegrs since leaving the Twins system. The 31-year-old was drafted in 2011 by the Mariners.

DANIEL GOSSETT signed by the Twins and assigned to the Saints. The right-handed starter had a couple of callups with the Oakland A's. Recently he pitched in the Red Sox organization (the team that first drafted him, unsigned).

Twins grab another shortstop candidate, ELLIOT SOTO, who can immediately start to play in minor league camp.

 

Interestingly, the Twins drafted Soto back in 2007, but he chose not to sign with them.

My only question is who is going to play and where. Austin Martin could be bumped to AAA. Looks more and more like Royce Lewis would start at AA after a delayed spring training. Beckham and Robertson were recently signees and both could be considered for the major league roster, getting a job on any 40-man guys. Of course, they would have to be added to the 40-man.

 

Where does Palacios fit into the Twins minor league and overall picture.

 

Twins, when the lockout end,s will still have two vacant spots on the 40-man, and also two spots of guys who will be on the long-term disabled list. So people in minor league camp will be watched closely, for shortstop, rotation or bullpen arms.

Might not be the correct spot to post this but…

Are they signing more players like Soto because they have a dozen or so players on the 40 that would have started in the minors but may be locked out? Miranda, Lewis, Celestino, Larnach and Rooker may all join AAA late and Beckham, Robertson, Soto and others offer them flexibility until they get there.

Twins released LACHLAN WELLS, signed out of Australia waaaay back in 2015. The lefty starter had mixed success in the system, but basically hasn't pitched the last two season fighting injuries and only had a brief stint at High A in 2019.

Catcher JUAN CENTENO signed with the Diamondbacks for debth in their system. The 32-year-old played in 55 games for the 2016 Twins.

Wells opted out of the 2021 season due to the pandemic. I thought he became a free agent after last season, but opting out maybe meant that the season didn't count or something....
