I think you're on the right track with the exception of Stashak.  Saying that, he's on pretty thin ice.

Doubt Stashak will be claimed, We have better prospects to protect and he has a pretty low ceiling.

Maybe Rocco will give an emotional press conference on how great it was to have Maggi on the team and see him realize his dream come true. His parents, other family and friends, could all fly in and  Marney could interview them? ?

When I read your comment about “roster scraps,” it pained my heart.  These are all fantastic baseball players, just not among the best 780 in the world.

I'm sorry to have offended you.  Understand I am speaking statically.  I'm sure they are fine people and players.  There are sooo many things in this world to have a pained heart.  Me not wanting them on the Twins should be much further down your list.  Keep your chin up my friend.

There is still 42 players on the 40 man roster including the 60 day DL.  Simmons will be a FA.  There are still several easy decisions.

Garlick

Cave

Refsnyder

Thorpe

Maybe Astudillo

And then it gets more difficult but there are a few players we can cut.

I think Refsnyder is a harder decision than Astudillo at this point. La Tortuga may be a fun player and fan-favorite, but he's also not all that good. If the Twins think Refsnyder figured something out that unlocked him for the first half and the poor performance in the second half was all injury-related...he's got more value than Astudillo. (That said, I think he's still a cut with the option to sign a minor league deal as depth)

We know there is a Grand Canyon to fill at the front of the rotation and late-inning bullpen. It was going to be a busy and challenging off-season got the FO.

Does the initial purge indicate a busy off-season on the roster margins too? With Arraez, Gordon, Astudillo, Rooker, Refsnyder, Cave, Coloumbe, Minaya etc… additional thinning is yet to gone, but I wonder if there’s plans for some additional volume of churn. Otherwise, why now? If you don’t need to free up some time for yourself, cutting most of those guys loose now doesn’t help them latch on with another organization, does it?

Does the team have to be down to 40 men on the roster, including the reinstatement of the guys on the 60-day IL? They are at 42 IIRC, and Simmons and Pineda will be free agents, putting them at 40. Other teams would have to do the same.

Not yet but the day after the World Series (or thereabout). So I think you're right, they can stand pat now; additional roster moves will be in order to add talent, for instance the prospects who need Rule-5 protection a month or so later, or in order to pounce when some other team waives a desirable player. Declining the option on Colome, which I anticipate, puts them at 39 for that purpose - 18 position players and 21 pitchers, and I'd expect the empty spot would go to a 22nd arm.  I could even see them going to 17-23 if they drop Garlick or Refsnyder for another arm, but after that I would expect direct improvement position by position, incrementally, as the off-season goes and the free agent market develops.

Refsnyder had a moment where he hit, but his numbers for his time with the Twins were more of the same for his career. He doesn't have any skill that jumps off the page and he's over 30. I don't think it's a tough choice to take him off the roster.

I don't think it's all that hard either, but it's more of a question than Astudillo at this point, or least it should be.

Arraez seems like an odd fit on this list, IMO.

(I also think 2-3 of those other guys will keep roster spots for now too, but agree that they're all on the bubble to some degree.)
