JT Riddle has elected to become a free agent.

Welp.  That opens up another hole for the FO to fill: fourth-string SS who OPSes .590 at AAA.  Got their work cut out for them to replace that.

Personally, I'm hoping Royce Lewis can eventually grow into this role. Im confident he'll hit at this level. Just not sure he has the SS chops long term though.

Your hoping Lewis can grow into a 4th option SS who OPS .590?

Cotton might be a good claim. He was pretty good for the crappy Rangers last year.

Cotton had a good ERA but it was in low-leverage duty (gmLI of .62, similar to the Twins usage of Derek Law, Nick Vincent, etc.). Cotton’s K% and BB% were both worse than those of a league average reliever. His best attribute in 2021 seems to a low HR/FB percentage.

I noticed that too, I would put him around where Garza is on the 'depth chart'. He could definitely be a candidate to be DFA'd to try and get him outrighted to AAA like they did with Hamilton/Waddell/Gibaut.

How many on the 40 man now before adding guys to avoid the Rule 5 draft?

They're going to need at least 5 spots for the Rule 5 prospects, so we should see more moves (DFAs/non-tenders) eventually.

39 including Cotton and the several still on the 60 day IL.

I don't think they have that many. I believe they have 31 plus the 60-day IL guys, totaling 39.

The Twins official site lists 39 including all of the 60-day guys and including Cotton, but not Refsnyder or Colome.

The strange thing about Cotton is that he is arbitration eligible and will demand, probably, $1.2 million or so in salary. At 29, is he actually better than a hsot of names the Twins may jettison off their current 40-man (Jax, Stashak, Smeltzer, Thorpe, Garza, Coulombe). Anyone the Twins claim on waivers has been ignored by more than a half-dozen teams that played worse ball than them in 2021.

That's what I was saying. 39 including Cotton and the 60 day guys.

i wouldn't be surprised if they work out a deal before an arb hearing. Most of his work was in low leverage situations with TEX but he was a prospect with OAK a few years back. I like the claim.

Gant was surprisingly DFA’d, and he cleared waivers, with no team wanting to pay his arbitration salary. He’d be worth bringing back on a cheap deal as a middle reliever / spot starter.

Perfect example of how the mid-tier veteran in all sports is hurt by artificially low pre-arb pay levels. He's likely better than thos players, but costs a lot more than they will. He'll 100% be signed by someone.

The Rangers picked up Colina, so it is like an unofficial trade of Colina for Cotton.

Anyone else notice how many ex-Twins are now free agents.  My current tally is 28 and I'm sure I'm missing a few.

(Barraclough, Vincent, Gibault, Farrell, Albers, Colome, Gant, Clippard, Adrianza, Rosario, Robles, Abad, D. Santana, Ramos, Gonzales, E. Santana, Suzuki, Escobar, Pineada, Simmons, Cruz, Hill, Romo, Happ, Santiago, Avila, Refsnyder, Burroughs)

Seems like more than usual.

Anyone on this list that you would be interested in the Twins reuniting with?
