I assumed coaching swaps would come pretty fast and furious. The Twins were on the receiving end of some pretty bad timing when they lost Shelton and Rowson a couple of offseasons ago. Then they lost their bench coach to cancer just before the season began. They need to be out in front of coaching changes to land the people they want most.

The reporting from this weekend sure made it sound that way as well. The plans had been made, they just needed to wait for the moment to announce what was happening.

Given that Bell passed before the season and Evers was obviously on the glide path to retirement there are probably some people already on the short list.

it's not likely Varela and Morgan caused any harm, but coaches in general are pretty fungible, and a new voice may bring improvements simply by being a new voice. 

Failure like 2021 mustn't be swept under the rug, and coaching change is one of the easiest and probably least harmful ways of maintaining "accountability".  Win and you keep your coaching job, lose and get reassigned. Next!

In a recent podcast, Gleemen mentioned that the Twins wanted some diversity of voices in their hitting coaches. It sounds as if both were "personnel guys", as in they were good at relating to players and coaching their emotional state but neither really specialized in the technical side of hitting. He made it sound as though the Twins, for pretty obvious reasons, want one "personnel" and one "technical" guy in those roles.

Also mentioned was talk of an additional pitching coach (the Twins have collegiate pitching coaches Maki and Johnson running the staff/bullpen now). It seems like there is no limit to the amount of coaches a team can carry anymore. Be interesting to see who comes on board!

I understand that Bert Blyleven has some free time.  That wasn't totally a joke!  But getting some savvy vet might help what is going to be a very young staff.

Did anyone noticed we lost Edwards Colina today to the Rangers on a waiver claim?  I guess the Twins feel comfortable with the pen as is and wanted the roster spot. Also Colina gained a year of service time this year....

Many fans wanted the hitting coach fired early in the year, and with Varela getting moved, I assume they'll be hiring a new hitting coach, so that could be a plus. They need to find a true replacement to Rowson.

the quote from Baldelli said they were indeed looking for someone more technical as changes in techniques change rapidly, and that it helps to have balancing skill sets on the coaching staff.
