And I doubt anyone believes Hicks strikeouts will be remedied at any level. If Hicks succeeds, it will be inspite of his strikeouts.

Agreed, I was trying to make the point, poorly clearly, that for Hicks it was no or never where as Walker has more time to make adjustments.

I would guess that Zach Jones goes to New Britain as well. He has some control problems but he is absolutely destroying the FSL. In 35 IP he has 50k's and only given up 18 Hits.

I wonder if part of the reasoning on Walker was Kvasnicka. Another reason for keeping Walker at CR might be the the fact that he is striking out in 22% of his PA's. Combine that with his age and they might want him to stay put to work on that swing and miss tendency where as Dalton Hicks, who also strikes out a bunch, is already 23.

Makes good sense what you wrote. Plus Kvasnicka is a 1st rounder and the Twins probably want to see what he has left in his tank (even @ 24 in A ball / 25 in December). He is beginning to play well lately. I like your points though.

No, your point was clear and valid. I just tried to add a rider to the opinion and my statement may have come across as contrary when it was actually intended as supporting evidence.

When, when, when will Vargas be promoted? Where is the "boom"? All-star breaks are over. Get some trades done to shake up the organization.

There are two other players that affect Vargas promotion besides himself. MIke Joseph Gonzales and Reynaldo A. Rodriguez. When Gonzales is off the DL there won't be room from him, Vargas, and Hicks at 1B/DH. Rodriguez isn't doing to bad in NB so releasing him isn't an ideal scenario either. Twins are probably giving it time to sort itself out, before having to release someone they can't get back.

Rodriguez is 27 at AA and has an OPS of .766. There is ZERO reason to hold back Vargas because of that guy.

The reason that Vargas wasn't promoted with the other guys was because the organization wanted to see how he'd do without Sano in the lineup.

By month:

April - 247/300/441 (741)

May - 313/407/646 (1053)

June - 354/420/544 (965)

July - 213/286/295 (581)

Obviously, Sano went up in mid-June so this isn't a great breakdown (and we're dealing with smallish samples - esp in July), but I think it's ok to keep Vargas here to see how he continues to adjust.

In Vargas' defense, Rodriguez has been worse since the Sano promotion too... Sano was better with Vargas, etc. I see Vargas has been DHing lately, so he's been getting a little break. Let him get amped back up and send him to NB when he goes on a little streak, but give him some time.

Zero is a very low number. Here's a couple.

Injuries and demotions. When they happen it leaves a system short handed, and they tend to promote guys that aren't ready. If you release someone you can't get them back. if Vargas got promoted but but didn't look ready for AA and send him back down again, they may not have anyone ready to take his place. If the Rock Cats find themselfs in playoff run that might seem short sighted.

Vargas has Never completed a full season of ball, no one can say what happens when he gets into a second half of play in a league. Like Jeremy said, it been a number of years since he hasn't had Sano protecting him or Vice versa.

Im a big Vargas fan. I hope he's our 1st baseman of the future. I like his bat a lot, his foot work at first base is good, and its rare to see so much power from both sides of the plate. I want Sano to stay at 3rd so Vargas doesn't get blocked in the future. I also think he should get added to the 40 man if he eligible to get rule Five'd; Not a view held by a lot of people smarter than I. ;)

Rodriguez isn't going to help our Big league club ever, but he has value for the system and throwing him away before you need to isn't good system management.

I really like Vargas, but really, this is more important to me.

This is what happens when the Kernels go out to the Eastern Division on a road trip and I get distracted with having some semblance of a life away from the ballpark. I miss stuff.

The Kernels added Mike Gonzales to their roster Saturday. He's DHing for the Kernels today.

Gonzales has been rehabbing with the GCL team.

I have one very distinct memory of Gonzales when he was with Beloit a couple of years ago. At a game in Cedar Rapids, Gonzales hit one of the longest home runs I had seen, at that point, clearing the top of the RF foul pole by a fair amount.

Obviously, Gonzales has some ground to make up if he's going to remain in the Twins organization, but for the moment, his is a power bat that the Kernels can use after losing Hicks and Williams to the Miracle.

Andrew reported that Bruce Pugh, who was pitching in New Britain, has been released.

That makes room for Blake Martin, who was sent down from Rochester to make room for the addition of Nick Blackburn, who will start for Rochester tonight.

Also, last week Corey Williams was DL'd in Fort Myers and Matt Tomshaw was activated.

Jairo Rodriguez has been promoted from Cedar Rapids to Triple-A Rochester. And no one on the planet understands why (even if Rochester needed to fill Drew Butera's spot, come on).

Rodriguez was 7-for-47 with 4 RBI for the Kernels this season. Played all of 2012 in Beloit.

Haha. Well, where are those two teams playing yesterday and today. Maybe he was simply the best to get there quickly. Sometimes this kind of thing is going to happen with catchers, especially. They weren't going to move Pinto up for two days. Of course they COULD just dump Fryer and promote Pinto. But that would merely be the smart thing to do.

I was waiting for just such a move, this seems like the logical time to do so. Just what is it about Pinto that makes the Twins hesitant about him? Is he really that much of a defensive liability that it makes it too risky to get his feet wet in AAA? Many of the pitchers he caught in New Britain are now pitching for the Red Wings already, so it's not like there's a lack of familiarity. And.... He certainly has nothing left to prove offensively in New Britain. Why not just swap out Fryer for Pinto?

I suspect Pinto moves up once the Doumit situation is settled. If Doumit gets traded, then no one gets released. If not, then they get rid of Fryer as you suggest.

Scouting reports on Pinto indicate he's pretty good defensively too, so I don't think that's an issue.

I think that Jairo Rodriguez has been hanging on by a thread for a while now. I could see Garver or Turner heading to CR and when Butera gets sent down, Rodriguez goes away.

Gene Glynn must be thrilled to have just picked up a Dead Man Walking....

Who is replacing Butera on the 40-man?

Mastroianni will need a spot when he returns.

I would guess by the time Ramirez and Mastroianni are ready to come back in a couple of weeks, the Twins will have placed a few guys on waivers and moved them. There's also some guys at the bottom of the 40 - like Hermsen and, eventually, De Vries - who will sneak through outright waivers to open up some other spots.
