Why all the arm injuries? Too many innings, not pitching last year (Canterino was shut down early last year because they thought he had enough "innings" even though did not pitch in real game), poor management of pitchers??

If I had the answer to this question, I would not be a freelance journalist writing for a Twins blog lol.

In all seriousness, I'd wager a bulk of the reason is due to the relative lack of activity last year followed by the relative boom of activity this year. The difficult thing with discussing injuries is that there is almost never enough evidence to draw grand conclusions. Injuries are multifactorial and much less is known about them than we'd like to admit. However, the main thing that pops up in the research over and over again is that injuries are most likely to occur 1. if the injured body part had been previously injured and 2. when activity is increased too quickly and by a great extent. Most of the studies conducted on the second point, however, are on relatively short timelines and are often analyzed retrospectively, which greatly reduces the power of the findings.
