The two slot in as our #2 (Martin) and #3 (SWR) prospects. That gives us five top 100 prospects, all of which are at AA or higher. The coming year should be fun with all the potential talent debuting.

Martin is instantly the Twins best prospect by a solid margin given the injury to Lewis.

MLB has Lewis at #13 and Martin at #16. Martin has had shoulder issues and that's why he was moved to outfield. He has less power than Lewis. Just pointing out reasons they may have Lewis higher.

Yeah, but quite a bit has changed since those rankings came out. Martin may have shoulder issues but he's also posting an .800 OPS in the high minors (AA). Lewis is still injured.

He may have less power than Lewis but Lewis has less games played.  Throw injured players out of the rankings at least internally until they play x amount of games.  For some to project Lewis as MLB roster 2023 seems pretty far fetched.  Not saying Martin is knocking on the door for next year but next year should be fun to see how guys play out when they play

KLaw is definitely a fan of Martin. #12 on his prospect list as of a week ago, and he's a tough grader. Noted that his drop in power is likely due to a change in approach after sustaining a hand injury in May. That makes a lot more sense to me than deciding that he's not going to develop the same power potential originally projected!

I think Martin is knocking on the door for a callup at some point next year. Depending what you want out of him. I'd bet a lot of money he'd hit better in MLB right now than Celestino.

Will be interesting to see what happens with service time rules in the new CBA and whether or not he has a shot at the opening day roster. Same with Lewis. If they trade Buxton and Donaldson (reports are they're listening to offers on both) then next year is lost and if service time manipulation is gone I'd like Lewis and Martin starting up the middle somewhere for the Twins next year.

Lewis seems more like an "instincts and athleticism" type hitter than a "technical" hitter which lends me to the thought he could bounce back relatively quickly. Get in a bunch of winter ball games and spring training games. If the Twins are trying to compete it's a different story, but if they really break this thing down and just bring a bunch of AA/AAA players then I'd like to see Lewis next year.

Yeah I really like Martin the more I look. No wonder Jays fans are nervous. 

But Twins fans have a front row seat on how bad pitching can derail a season. Scouting a pitcher's stat line is the worst way to scout a pitcher, except for all the other ways (- Churchill on democracy quote) and I don't know how Woods Richardson stands out from the other guys in the system. Sure he's young for his level, but that doesn't seem to serve him well and probably means he's still a ways off.

I put a lot of stock in a prospect's age versus level. Sure, a team can promote a guy prematurely, just to impress people like me, I suppose. But you can't fake performance.  JA Happ the past few starts is exhibit A that there is no floor to how badly a pitcher's performance can go. If Simeon has an ERA in the 5's, at AA, at age 20, this ain't chopped liver by any means, and he isn't really failing.

I honestly like this trade. Berrios has been a good pitcher and very durable but I don't see much more upside in the next 3-5 years from him. I know we need pitching but this is a good haul. Twins better light up the FA market with pitchers this winter. Lot's of holes to fill in the starting rotation.

For a year and a half of Bérrios, that sounds about right, even if these two prospects are more famous than their skills merit right now."

Law isn't afraid to commit to an opinion, right or wrong.

He's often a nice counter-balance to the overall positivity of other analysts.

Law (and others) make note of a swing change Martin made this year (more inside out than before) and a wrist injury he suffered. He's well regarded (by Law and others) for his approach and ability to barrel the ball. It'd obviously be better if he was hitting for power now, but I'll take a guy who has a born-with-it ability to get the barrel to the ball like him and try to adjust the swing (just going back to his college swing adds power) over a guy who can hit the ball a mile but you have to teach to barrel the ball consistently. 

His notes on SWR are also about mechanics. At the age of 20 I'd like to think he can tweak things here and there and increase velo (Twins have been very good at doing that with prospects) and fix the sudden control concerns. Not predicting it happens, but the concerns Law mentions are things that you'd expect coaching to be able to help to some degree.

Yeah - I mean I think it's Maeda and that's it. Twins really hoping Dobnak can get back to what he was in 2019, but it's gonna be 2022 and that seems like a long, long time ago right about now.
