“One score and ten years ago” (as Tom Kelly once famously began), the Twins won three of four in a series with the Royals at this time of year. 

The Twins won the last two games of that late May series in Kansas City, those 30 years ago, and began a 15-game winning streak, going on to sweep the likes of Baltimore, the Yankees, and Cleveland. The rest is history. All those teams the Twins built that winning streak on in 1991 are the teams the Twins face here in June again this year. “The past may not repeat itself exactly, but does often rhyme” (as Ron Gardenhire once famously observed). 

But the key is to take the last two games of this series. 

Since the Royals were the last AL Central team to win a World Series championship, in 2015, I thought I’d take a look at where some of those 2014-2015 Royals players are now.*

*  This list not exhaustive, though it very well could be exhaust-ing
 
Eric Hosmer
Currently on the San Diego injured list with fellow teammate and former Omaha Royal Wil Myers.
 
Lorenzo Cain
Cain is now in Milwaukee, and led the Brew Crew to an NLCS Game 7 in 2018. 
 
Mike Moustakas 
Moose is now in Cincinnati, but had a short stop in Milwaukee with Cain, also during the NLCS run. (Note: he had a short stop, but was not the short stop).
 
Danny Duffy
Still with the Royals, and finally realizing his potential at age 32.
 
Edinson Volquez
Journeyman starter who was signed prior to 2015, backbone of the rotation that year and made all his starts, include the start in Game 1 of the World Series without the knowledge that his father had passed away earlier that day. 
 
Raul Mondesi
Still with the Royals. Like Kirilloff, made his MLB debut in the postseason game—Game 5 of the World Series. 
 
Salvadore Perez
One of the underrated catchers of the last decade. Still with the Royals.
 
Drew Butera
That’s right; remember him? Caught the final strike from Wade Davis in the 12th inning of Game 5 to win the championship. Butera is with the .. can’t remember. He is still in the majors I think.
 
Wade Davis
Back with the Royals
 
Kendrys Morales
A former Twin, Morales signed in Minnesota in 2014 after a long spring holdout, was traded to Seattle, and signed with Kansas City the next season for something called veteran leadership, snort, chuckle. (Just kidding; Nelson Cruz has filled that role nicey for the Twins, minus the World Series).
 
Josh Willingham
That’s right—another former Twin. Willingham hit a leadoff single in the 10th inning of the 2014 wild card game that ignited a rally, and retired happy after that.
 
Alex Gordon 
The lynchpin, also in retirement, with his family, staying in shape, eating pizza, and waiting for the World Series anniversary reunions to begin in 2025. 
 
That’s the thing with winning World Series championships. It makes the reunions easier to schedule. 
 
Today is the first day of the rest of the season! Come on, Twins! No time like the present! It’s now or never! Remember thirty years ago! When the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor! Rawwwr!!! (not sure if we can attribute such a fiery, inspirational speech as this to Rocco Baldelli)

I know we have bigger fish to fry, but Simmons bunt attempt was awful. Broadcast crew applauded his effort....not this guy. I knew in HS not to bunt without pushing ball down. I recognize I was not facing 90mph FB, but you get paid millions. End of rant

But i did want to ask if this view kept you from Bremmergasming on every fly ball because you shan't ever think the ball is going further because you can't see it after a point?

 

Anyway, glad to know we can't lose this game since you're there!
