Can FAs be traded?

I need help again from my TD family. I always thought that FAs can be traded the same year that they are signed. But I saw some place that contradicted that. So please set me straight, can FAs be traded the same year that they sign?

This sounds like an oxymoron.

If they are a free agent, then they aren't signed, and how can a team trade someone who doesn't play for them?

As far as players who signed as free agents... Only limitations are those written into the contract? Well, and they may have to pass through waivers if it is after the trade deadline?

I think there used to be a limitation on trading drafted players within a year of signing... But i recollect that being the case a decade or so ago, and much has changed since then.

I believe the rule is that MLB FA signings can't be traded before May 15th. Obviously that doesn't come up too often!

Happ is a very good pitcher, he's just a little behind to work out what needs to be worked out. The staff saw something that they figured they could improve on, they just need some time.

My concern is a lefty against a very dominant RH hitting division which seems to continue to get more lopsided. Their argument is that he can be effective against righties. But ask him to do that every outing, almost every pitch against some very dominant RH hitters seems like a very tall order. I voiced my opinion when we 1st signed him. I think he could be worth that $ to someone but not to us. He could be worth something to someone but not very much.
