Report from The Fort: Do the Twins have Enough Pitching?

Recommended Posts

I agree you can never have enough good pitching. I like our depth and what you mentioned about improved defense goes a long way. Still trading for an ace is very appealing, not only gaining an ace but also making room on the 40 man roster of redundant players for needed ones.

I still don't like the way this rotation stacks up against would be playoff opponents. Is it better than years past? Probably, but still not gives me a lot of confidence against legitimate title contenders.

A certain east coast team fielded playoff teams in the last two full seasons ('18 and '19) without having a starting pitching staff that performed any better than the Twins will this year.

(Not counting '20, SSS).

We are too worried about the starting pitching. We should be worried about the bullpen.

We’re set up fine for the regular season.

I don’t think we have the pitching to be a serious World Series contender.

I could be wrong. Maeda could sustain his dominance and Berrios could take “the next step.” I just don’t think either are likely. We don’t even have the best rotation in our division, let alone the AL.

When those two do provide very good playoff starts, we’ve seen Baldelli yank them early. If you’re playing that game, you need to stack dominant relievers. Duffey is there, but I’m not sure we have anything else I’d consider dominant. Colome is fine - he was good last year but had a FIP over 4 the year before, and underwhelming performances prior to that. We all know about Rogers recently. Who’s next, Robles? Not inspiring.

"Drive by comment." I like it.

I wasn't actually in the car, but hurrying to get going, and running by the computer to shut it down ... couldn't resist the comment ... and then I really had to run, literally, to catch my bus ...

You can never have too much pitching, so the logical conclusion is, no, they don't have enough. :)

(Okay ... I admit to not watching the video because I'm late for work, but had to make a drive by comment.)

Hopefully the comment wasn't written WHILE driving. Doesn't Illinois have some laws about that? :-)
