Murphy: Worley Ready To Go

John Bonnes

Recommended Posts

I find it somewhat interesting that one of Worley's worst days as a pitcher came at Hammond Stadium when he was trying to make the Phils last year. I also find it interesting that off-speed stuff seems to be more critical in the AL...

"For me, there's probably more breaking balls (to throw) in the American League. But in the end, it's still my stuff versus your stuff," he said. "It's just figuring out the hitters in this league."

I'm very optimistic about Worley. I read a lot of comments about him being a 3 or a 4.

That may be so... Afterall... last year was a very average year numbers wise... But... There was nothing average about his 2011 season. He was very sharp in 2011 and 2012 could be written off as injury related or sophomore jinx related.

Until he shows me differently in 2013... I'm starting the season with the expectation that Worley is what he was in 2011 and will lead this staff and lead it well.

Be mindfull that the third and definately the fourth round of numbers would tend to higher due to facing the top of the order and probably missing the bottom. As it would appear that he averages about 6 IP/start, it would be more likely that if he were removed, it would be facing the top of the order. No I did not go back and look at any games..

Outs will tend to be harder to get as guys see more of your pitches, yes, but those numbers suggest to me that his future is in relief.

Actually he's better, esp. if you minimize the 4th+ PA...

One thing you have to note: Worley was 24 last season. Before his prime. Young pitchers improve and I hope that those numbers change. Marcum is over his prime and the same with Saunders. Hard to compare those guys to a 24 year old

Thanks Hammer... Interesting stats to look at.

He's still on the innings low side... the numbers need to stabalize and I remain hopeful that the numbers stabilize in the right direction as the inning count goes forward.

The Vanimal... I can't wait for April. Let's go.
