Blowing up the draft....parts 1 and 2

Mike Sixel

Recommended Posts

Here is my proposal for blowing up the MLB draft.....

Part 1 has the goals and a summary

Part 2 has the details

Eventually I will publish part three (and maybe 4) which analyzes the money distribution and makes predictions about what I think would actually happen....

edit: There is an intermittent issue with my site.....which they are working to fix. If you get an error, apologies in advance....just try reloading.....

So just to clarify, the 10 worst teams get the full 17M to spend in all three of those rounds?

Or the worst tier of teams gets $8M to spend in all three rounds total, the second tier gets 5M and the final tier gets 4M?

In theory....but NO ONE will spend that much, imo. I'll be posting about the dollars next.......so, yes, the pools reset every round.....so, the worst teams get $8MM in round 1....then they get $5MM in round 2....etc.

Players have a choice to not sign after they are drafted.  The reality for a lot of people is they have to go where their job is.

Teams tank. So what. Bad baseball is bad baseball. Mediocre free agents are not going to change a bad team into a good team. Past prime players are not what they were. See the Twins teams from the mid 90s They were not very good and the players added were not a drastic improvement.

Suppressing compensation. Look at any pro sports league, every league has a draft, every league has a pool of money for the draft.

When 3 out of the first three opinions are this flawed I gave up

Fair. No idea why giving players more choice is bad.... but you can feel what you want to feel.
