Twins Spotlight: Episode 9 (Bailey Ober)

Seth Stohs

Recommended Posts

Tonight at 7:00 (central time), Seth will be chatting with one of the newest members of the Twins 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Bailey Ober on an episode of Twins Spotlight.

The discussion will be live on the Twins Daily social media platforms, Twitter, Facebook or YouTube pages.

It may appear like any other transaction, but getting added to the 40-man roster is a big deal for any player. On Friday, Bailey Ober along with Jordan Balazovic and Ben Rortvedt, were added to the Twins 40-man roster.

It's not a minor move for a number of reasons. First, it means that the player will make more money than if he is not on the 40-man roster. Second, it means getting to go to big league spring training without needing to wait for an invitation from the front office in December or January. Third, and probably most important, it means one less obstacle needed to be called up to the big leagues.

Tonight we will talk with Bailey Ober about getting that call and what it means to him. We will also talk about his 2020 season which was quite quiet.

It will be a good opportunity for Twins fans to get to know more about Ober. Join us live and we will take your questions for the 6-9 righty. Leave some questions below if you would like as well.

Looking forward to listening to this tomorrow, Seth. Really want to learn what he was doing this summer and why he wasn't at St. Paul. Personally thought he should have been in St. Paul with that leading group of pitchers.....Balazovic, Colina and Duran.

You alluded to the fact that they make more $$$ once on the 40-man. Is there a minimum salary for guys on the 40-man, kind of like there is a minimum once in MLB?

This is becoming a broken record, Seth, but another fantastic interview. Another very impressive young man working his way up to the Twins.

Is a little unclear to me why he would be in Denver. If I am correct, was a Carolina kid growing up who then went to CofC. Is his wife from Denver and that is why they are there?

Hearing that he was healthy this past spring makes it more confusing why he wasn't at the Alternative Camp in St. Paul. And even more so why he wasn't then at the Instructional Camp. Doesn't make sense, especially now that he is on the 40-man?

Found his comments about Rortvedt very interesting and confirm my belief that he will be a Twins catcher for a long time. Thanks again, Seth. These interviews are the best programming on any baseball site, anywhere.

Yes, his wife's family is from the Denver area.

I didn't ask because it's none of my business, but it's possible that he and his wife chose to stay home with the pregnancy/birth/pandemic. Wouldn't blame him. But it could be anything.

Also, you are too kind, Roger. Thank you!

Another wonderful interview, Seth! Greatly appreciated!

The Twins like him enough to protect him, which is great, but didn't see enough immediate benefit to include him in St Paul. I can understand that. Though reflecting on some of the other guys there over the season, I would have thought they might have snuck him in. For instance, wasn't Barnes brought in for the last few weeks?

And it seems strange he wasn't included in the instructional league either. I don't want to poke my nose where it doesn't belong, but I have to assume this was due to the impending birth of his second child and covid concerns. And I get that.

Really looking forward to seeing him in 2021 and really hoping he is healthy and ready to go! Can't help but wonder if he will skip additional time at AA and move straight to AAA.
