Free Agency / Re-Signings 2020-21 Offseason

Chad Dey of Sportsnet 650 reports that the Mariners have agreed to a contract with free agent left-hander James Paxton.
Jeff Passan of ESPN adds that it's a one-year pact for $8.5 million. There are also incentives in the deal that could push the contract north of $10 million.

Paxton's base salary is 0.5 million more than Happ's! From the surface that seems like it would have been a great move for the Twins, but who knows about the medical reports, where Paxton wanted to play, etc.

Yanks sign Jay Bruce- could be a great move. Orioles sign Matt Harvey- nothing to lose. Cubs get Arrieta back- who knows. Turner back with the Dodgers- expected move. Many more coming this week though probably minor league deals with invites. Who's left?

The A's land Trevor Rosenthal, which was certainly unexpected.

8:59am: In a surprising move, the A’s have agreed to a one-year deal with free-agent righty Trevor Rosenthal, reports MLB Network’s Jon Heyman (via Twitter). The Boras Corporation client will earn $11MM in 2021 and presumably slot in as Oakland’s primary closer before returning to the open market next winter.

8:37pm: While it’s only a one-year pact, the Athletics will pay Trevor Rosenthal for three seasons, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic tweets. He’ll earn $3MM in both 2021 and ’22 and another $5MM in ’23.
