Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports that Pedro Baez and the Astros are in agreement on a two-year contract.

Jeff Passan of ESPN says the deal also includes an option for a third year, is worth $12-14 million and includes a number of escalators in addition to a buyout.

The reliever market is starting to move. Soria and Colome might be signing soon, according to reports.

Archie Bradley to the Phillies, 1 year, $6M.

Can't say i saw him settling for a 1 year lowball deal.

Not sure if I'd call that a lowball offer, he was likely going to get $4.3M to $5.7M in arbitration and the Reds didn't even tender him. He probably deserves more than just a one year deal, but he's getting more moolah in Philly.

Updating a previous report, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Mets are not yet close to an agreement with Brad Hand.

Rosenthal first reported earlier Friday that the two sides were closing in on a two-year contract

The Mets haven't gotten him to sign the deal yet, but it seems they're the favorite to get him.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Yankees have reached an agreement with free agent right-hander Corey Kluber.

I'm alright not getting Kluber... I just don't like the odds that he'll be as good as he once was and that he'll stay healthy.

ESPN's Jeff Passan reports that the Padres have acquired right-hander Joe Musgrove from the Pirates.

It will be a three-team, seven-player swap once all of the medical reviews are completed, with the Pirates getting OF prospect Hudson Head, LHP prospect Omar Cruz, RHP prospect Drake Fellows, and reliever David Bednar from the Friars. Joey Lucchesi, meanwhile, is headed to the Mets in exchange for 1B/OF/C prospect Endy Rodriguez.

How many more starters are the Padres going to hoard?! They've got all-out upgrading their rotation, as they've traded for Clevinger, Darvish, Snell, and Musgrove in the past 6 months. Truly an unprecedented situation here.

Not that I disagree, but outside of Bauer almost any starter the Twins will bring in is going to have question marks/warts. The longer they wait the likelier it becomes that they're left with an arm rather than the arm

Personally I'd rather see them target a player(s) and just go get them but maybe the team doesn't see much difference in what's left and they're simply content with the most team friendly deal.

Finally, a big deal!

George Springer signs with Toronto. Brendon Kuhn of the Blue Jays Nation blog had the news first, with Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic providing the financials: six years, $150 million

Also for the Jays:

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that free agent reliever Kirby Yates is in agreement with the Blue Jays.
Yates met with Blue Jays officials at the team's spring training complex in Dunedin, Florida on Tuesday and apparently came away impressed.

The Angels have an agreement with free-agent left-hander Jose Quintana, pending a physical, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. It’s a one-year, $8MM contract for the Wasserman client, per Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports.

According to sports broadcaster Hazel Mae, the Blue Jays have signed Michael Brantley to a three-year deal.

TSN's Scott Mitchell reported late Tuesday night that "there's legit legs" to the idea of Brantley and George Springer heading to Toronto as a package deal, and that is indeed how it has played out

So, Brantley to the Jays isn't happening. Instead, Houston wooed him back:

Mark Berman of FOX 26 in Houston reports that the Astros have re-signed Michael Brantley to a two-year, $32 million contract.
Well then. Multiple reports surfaced Wednesday morning which said that Brantley had agreed to a three-year contract with the Blue Jays, but by the afternoon it was clear that the two sides still had some legwork to do.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Nationals have signed Brad Hand to a one-year, $10.5 million contract.

As Passan points out in his report, he gets more than the $10 million option that Cleveland declined at the end of the 2020 season. Jesse Daugherty notes that the deal is pending a physical, and does not contain any options or incentives.

Hand, at the very least, got his $10M back plus a bit more. He probably wanted a 2 year deal, but this isn't a bad outcome for him.

Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports that the Red Sox are acquiring Adam Ottavino from the Yankees.

Yes, the rare Yankees/Red Sox trade. It appears the main motivation for the Yankees was freeing up the cash, as Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the Red Sox are set to pick up most of what's owed to Ottavino ($8 million in 2021, $3 million deferred) for the remainder of his deal. Buster Olney of ESPN reports that the Yankees are kicking in $850,000. Per Joel Sherman of the New York Post, New York will also send prospect right-hander Frank German to Boston, so the Red Sox are essentially buying a prospect while buying low on a reliever. Ottavino, 35, posted a rough 5.89 ERA over 24 relief appearances in 2020, but he's obviously capable of better.

According to Sankei Sports in Japan, free agent right-hander Masahiro Tanaka is in talks with the Rakuten Eagles of Nippon Professional Baseball.

There has been chatter for weeks now that Tanaka might really head back to his native country, and the Yankees' recent acquisitions of starting pitchers Corey Kluber and Jameson Taillon might have spurred that consideration even further.

Another starting pitcher appears to be close to coming off the board - entirely, to another league. You'd think MLB would be able to retain players of Tanaka's caliber...

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that free agent infielder Marcus Semien is headed to the Blue Jays.

It's a one-year, $18 million contract, per ESPN's Jeff Passan.

I can see why the Twins didn't match this price... $18M is a lot for him.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that the Indians are closing in on a deal with free agent outfielder Eddie Rosario.
There were plenty of teams interested in Rosario -- including the Brewers who seemingly wanted him to play first base -- but it looks like Rosario will decide to remain in the American League Central. Given the current construction of the Indians' lineup, Rosario should find himself hitting right in the middle of the order on a nightly basis. The 29-year-old hit .277/.310/.478 with 119 homers in 697 games with the Twins over his six seasons there. The move away from Target Field should help his power numbers, though the surrounding cast is a definite downgrade.

The Indians finally make a move, and they land Rosario. We'll be seeing a lot of him!

The Cardinals and Rockies have swung an enormously impactful trade centering on Colorado third baseman Nolan Arenado, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic was among those to report. The Rockies will send around $50MM to the Cardinals in the deal, according to Rosenthal, who adds that it likely won’t be official tonight and perhaps won’t go through this weekend.

Kolten Wong’s deal is a two-year, $18MM contract that contains a club option for a third season, Rosenthal tweets. If the option is picked up, Wong would earn $26MM over the three-year term.

12:50pm: The Brewers and Wong have agreed to terms on a contract, MLB.com’s Jon Morosi tweets. It’s a multi-year deal for the PSI Sports Management client. Presumably, the deal is still pending a physical.

Chad Dey of Sportsnet 650 reports that the Mariners have agreed to a contract with free agent left-hander James Paxton.

Jeff Passan of ESPN adds that it's a one-year pact for $8.5 million. There are also incentives in the deal that could push the contract north of $10 million.
