I hope Dallas makes the Vikings an offer for Zimmer and the Wilfs just say, screw it, let's just clean house regardless of the record.

The Wilfs are former NY Giants fan boys who idolize Bill Parcells. Zimmer and Parcells talk and text more than people know and I’m sure the Wilfs love that they’re 1 degree of separation from their idol. I’m afraid the Wilfs will allow Zimmer to stay until the day he wants to retire.

They had a lane to salvage this season, but what an awful performance.  They happen, but there was no more margin for that kind of error.

Now we're in the stupid 10-15 range of picks and no second round pick.  Plus, our biggest playmaker on defense is highly unlikely to be retained.  This team has some nice young talent, but it's time to start purging the aging, overpaid players.

I do hope the reports about Hunter wanting a massive deal aren't true, the Vikings can't afford to give a massive raise guy coming off serious neck surgery. If they have to trade him, I imagine they'd get a pretty package for him, though discounted a bit due to the injury.

I was frustrated to see no more trades after the Ngakoue move - Reiff and Harris should have been moved. Rudolph and Barr need to go. This team is stuck in an awkward spot in that they kept making win-now moves, while having a golden opportunity to hit the reset button and move players for picks. Just look at how well the Diggs trade has panned out, plus we have 3 more 2021 draft picks from it!

I'm still surprised we lost that game. The officiating was horrible and the play calling on offense was a bit iffy. But I still figured we would win. To win, Dallas had to convert a 4th and six and we also had two almost interceptions on that last drive.

2020 sucks.

Admittedly I turned off the TV and did other things after the back to back fumble TDs from Carolina. This morning I watched the last 4 minutes of the game out of curiosity.

The first thing I noticed is Panthers fans should be furious with the play calling yesterday. Their offensive drive made zero sense given the situation. Calling pass plays with frequency, and calling for Teddy to make deep ball passes that he’s never been able to do in an NFL uniform. When they were on defense, they only rushed 3 players against Kirk. Vikings fans know all too well if you pressure Kirk out of the pocket he’ll fall apart. If you give him time, he will carve up the defense. That was equally as baffling.

Teddy.... yikes dude. I thought he played well through halftime, even out playing check down Kirk. Then the 2nd half happened. He missed DJ Moore badly enough on a pass that the WR hurt himself adjusting back to the duck throw. His completed deep ball to Robbie Anderson should have been a walk in TD but he missed the mark on that pass as well.

NIce win, a few thoughts

1) Cousins is having a nice year. He's not the reason we are 5-6.

2) It's nice to watch a game where we can look at the other team and say "Ha ha, we outcoached you!" All the Panthers had to do was run out the clock.

3) I think it's been 20+ years since our special teams were this bad.

4) I'm more worried about our DL's ability to stop the run then our young corners. Good thing the Panthers coaching staff stopped running wildly down our throats.

5) The Vikings are going to ride Cook into early retirement. He's great but he's not Emmitt Smith or Earl Campbell. They need to use Mathison more.

I'm not trying to cast any aspersions but wasn't that two weeks in a row where Cook came up injured after he fumbled the ball? And both weeks he was able to get back on the field and look no worse for the wear?

Let’s hope he’s not another Xavier Rhodes who had the same circumstantial injury bug whenever he messed up on the field.

You aren't imagining things. And, they aren't winning anything meaningful this year. Mattison needs to play more

I don't think he was faking an injury.

Why should he be embarrassed?  That was a beautiful lateral from inside the pile to break that guy for a second touchdown in less than 10 seconds.  That took skills!

This team is destined for 8-8 and narrowly missing the playoffs.  The worst scenario really.

I'd actually take 8-8 and missing the playoffs to 9-7 and getting blown out at Lambeau Field in the first round.

But yeah, nothing worse than mediocrity in pro sports these days.

Definitely.  I see some really nice building blocks on this team, but I question if they have the guts to move on from guys like Barr in order to keep adding to the roster.  And I fear yet another CB in round 1 this year despite our desperate need for DT.

I know a lot of fans are afraid they'll go CB in the 1st again because Zimmer, but I foresee him going after a veteran to pair with Gladney/Dantzler/Boyd (with what little FA money we'll have). Barr should be gone, but I could see Zim doing his best to keep him via a pay cut. Rudolph should be gone and despite Reiff's improved play, they may not be able to afford him.

Aiming for a 3 tech DT makes a lot of sense, I could also see O-line, S, DE (Hunter gets traded, definitely) as big needs.

I'm told the DT class is mediocre.....now, the people that tell me that worry about VALUE too much. If there is a starting DT, then he is worth a mid first round pick.....regardless of "value."

I think we have a long enough track record from Spielman and Zimmer to determine that they draw a correlation between a players length of tenure and the players value. Which obviously is absurd.

Yeah, can't keep drafting DBs in the 1st or 2nd round each year and then letting them walk after their rookie contracts in favor of Zimmer's veteran pets. That is such a huge waste of draft capital and poor roster management.

The team needs some DTs but that has historically been the one position Spielman has actually found decent production in free agency. I don't think I'm going to take this organization seriously until they actually make an attempt to find a top 5 QB.

I think the Vikes make the playoffs and have a first week upset followed by a blow out loss. Seems very Zimmer-like.

I really wonder what this team would have looked like if Pierce didn't opt out. Our run defense is really bad but could he have made it respectable?

Run D has been better. If Pierce was The Juggernaut of two years ago we would be dominant.

Pass rush has mostly been poor though.

Based on recent history, the Vikes would be the #7 seed and the Saints the #2.

So yeah, sounds about right. And there will be much caterwauling from Saints fans about some perceived in-game slight of course.

Better than a tie? That was ugly and came with so much unnecessary stress.

The OL had a brutal day with penalties, and allowing untouched Jaguars to clock Kirk multiple times. It’s beyond time to bench Dozier and give his snaps to a player who might have a future.

I don’t know who else to blame but coaching for them starting almost every game asleep at the wheel. Special teams hasn’t looked this sloppy on every level in a very long time. I’ve got to imagine Maalouf will be fired Mike Tice style at the end of this season. Not even allowing him to go back to the locker room without knowing he’s clearing out his stuff.

I wish they had a plan B to take some of those touches off Cook’s plate today after Mattison was ruled out last night. 38 touches just to beat a lousy 1-10 team is not ideal.

As far as positives... Justin Jefferson wows me every week. He’ll end up breaking OBJ’s rookie yards record. Cameron Dantzler created multiple turnovers today. Harris and Harry the Hitman were noticeable on the field in a good way.

Real ugly game today. Somehow they're in the 7th playoff spot, but I don't like our chances against the Bucs coming off a bye. It'll be our first time playing a good team in about 6 weeks... with the way we've struggled against the Cowboys, Panthers, and Jags, I don't see how they're going to hold a candle to the likes of Tampa or New Orleans. But of course this is 2020, so the unexpected should be expected.
