Are you not seeing comments in the front page articles?

Recommended Posts

Still happens for me too. The Rafael Perez article today shows only 1 comment, when I click to the article from the front page. I use Firefox 17.0.2, but it also shows up the same if I switch to Internet Explorer 8.0, 32-bit and 64-bit alike. If I click to it via the forum link on the left, all is well.

It's intermittent, in terms of seeing it happen over past weeks or months, but it's very reproducible once I notice it happening on a given article. The fact that you can't reproduce it suggests caching is involved, but I don't see the behavior correct itself if I flush the cache so maybe it's not a factor. I don't have any other ideas.

[Edit: just noticed I responded in this thread a few weeks ago. Give me credit for consistency, at least.]

Brock: have you literally never seen this issue? I see some form of it every time I visit the front page or articles. Even on a completely different computer with a different browser and IP address where I'm not logged in to the site and I've never visited the site before, Seth's Rafael Perez article shows one comment on the article page right now, when the count on the front page and in the forum is 9.

And even on other pages, the comment count near the top of the article page almost never matches the comment count on the front page or at the bottom of the article (even if all of the comments are properly displayed on the article page). Seth's Buxton article today shows 4 comments at the top when there are actually 8.

It seems to be most prevalent on current/active articles, so I'm guessing some values aren't getting updated or refreshed as often as they should.

This morning three of the articles I tried from the main page (Sano, Pelfrey, Diamond) worked correctly with seeing the number of comments promised. But for Seth's Inf/OF article, the main page stated 15 comments, but when I clicked on the page it then said 11 comments (which was indeed the number that showed up, something that yesterday I could not even take for granted).
