Are you not seeing comments in the front page articles?

Recommended Posts

There has been an intermittent problem with comments not generating properly on the article pages. Several of you have complained about this and after speaking to the developers about it, I cannot get the issue to replicate this morning.

Are you still having these issues? If you are, let me know your operating system, your browser, and which article is not showing the entire list of comments. Thanks. Trying to get this resolved but since it's only under certain environments and circumstances, it's hard to track down.

Yes, I noticed the problem this morning in both the "hot Stove" and "Trade Window" articles. The front page said they had 8 and 7 comments respectively but when I read the articles only 1 comment was visible. I had to go to the forum to read the remaining comments.

I don't have much to add, except my particular configuration. From the middle of the main TD page I click on the Hot Stove article and get taken to

Twins Daily - Twins Should Strike While Stove is Hot

Despite the main page saying I would see 34 comments (at the moment), the new page that is opened up shows in the summary at top that there is only 1 comment:

I am running on Windows 7 SP 1 (v1.07.00.AE B08). The same result occurs whether I use Firefox 10.0.11, Internet Explorer 64-bit 8.0.7601.17514, or the non-64-bit IE of the same version number.

I have tried flushing the cache. Since I rarely use IE, I would not expect cache to be an issue anyway.

HTH, as they say.

I'm only seeing 1 comment on the first couple articles that say there are many. Win7, FireFox 17.0.

Edit: The Gardy article says 85 comments on the front page, but when I open it there are 73. A little different than the others only showing 1 comment.

all articles...... window xp, firefox and chrome. only one comment shows up on all articles accessed from the intros on the front page, from all the links. the links from the side bar all work and comments show up. comments show up if accessed from the forum page. only front page article links have a problem. it has worked a few times in the last week.... but then goes back to failing. a couple days, a couple of the articles worked, but other didn't. weird. sorry i can't be more specific, but i don't take notes on these things. good luck.

I too am seeing this problem. Mac OS X Chrome, also have seen it in Windows 7 Firefox.

Today the "Health Permitting, Pelfrey Could Deliver" article shows 22 comments on the front page, but when I click the article, it says 2 comments, but it actually displays 4 comments.

Last week it was displaying only one comment on the article page, but the front page was advertising ~100+ comments (and all the comments would show up if I visited the forum).

Here's what I am seeing right now:

Front page (says 23 comments):

post-2077-140639192873_thumb.jpg

Top of article page (says 2 comments):

post-2077-140639192876_thumb.jpg

Bottom of article page (says and displays 4 comments):

post-2077-140639192881_thumb.jpg

Forum shows all 23 comments correctly.

I remember coming to the site in the wake of the Revere trade I think, and seeing 100+ comments on the front page articles, clicking them, and then only seeing one lonely comment underneath the article. I gave up on pursuing any discussion at that point. It's probably something worth fixing!

If it really adds any info to the situation, I only see a limited amount of comments from the main articles, whereas the links from the sidebar or directly from the forum show all of them. I also notice the few comments seen from the main articles don't have some of the extra info about the user who posted (like rank, number of posts, etc...)

Windows 8 using Opera 12, at least most of the time.

Are some of you still having this problem? The software company is not being very helpful so I'm going to have to figure this out by myself, I think.

It varies. At the moment, I right clicked on the four topmost articles on the main page to put them in separate tabs, and I see:

Twins still seeking third base help? - main page claims 7 comments, top of the article says 1 comment, I see 1 comment

State of the starting corps - main page claims 63 comments, top of the article says 1 comment, at end of article is says 12 comments, I count 12

Twins week in the winter leagues - main page claims 19 comments, top of article says 19, end of article says 19, I count 19

Gleeman and the Geek - main page says nothing about comments, top of article says 0, end of article says nothing, I see none

So the last two seem to work correctly, the other two don't.

I've never paid much attention to the comment through the front page, always through the forum. I checked all of the articles currently on the front page, the Mauer HOF article is the only one it was happening on. At the top of the article it told me there were 2 comments, at the bottom of the article it said/displayed 1 comment.

This is WinXP with an up-to-date version of Firefox.

Another observation, the State of the Starting Corps articles says there are 131 comments at the top, and 145 comments at the bottom.

Just noticed this again. "For Better Or Worse: Brian Dozier" shows 4 comments on the front page, when I click the article I see only 1 comment, and when I visit its comments thread on the forum I see 5 comments (which at least jibes with the front page count, since the top "comment" in the forum thread is just a link to the article). Mac OS X Chrome browser, for what it's worth.

Also, unrelated, but the same article seems to be missing a link where Parker wrote "Click on this link to see our official thread AND take the survey" -- there is no link there, so I had to manually navigate the forum to find it.

Still seeing the problem intermittently. I'll click on an article on the main page, where I know for sure I posted a reply, and when the page comes up there will be only 7 or so comments, none of them recent. I do not understand why it's been so difficult for the QA team to reproduce this. I'm using Firefox 17.0.2, but I see no change in behavior when I switch to IE.

In my never-ending quest to drive myself insane trouble-shooting this problem, can someone verify if they see it today? I changed a few settings and swapped some code but since I can't get the awful, horrible, stupid problem to replicate on my end, I never know if anything I do works or not.

I still see it. Seth's Rafael Perez article shows "7 comments" on the front page, but only displays 1 comment when I click on the article. I have to manually find the forum thread to see all the comments. Refreshing the page or trying a different browser does not help. It seems like the article comment display is only built periodically, so it isn't in sync with the forum comments or the comment count?

I also saw a similar issue when posting a comment a few days ago too -- that seemed to be related to caching. The article in question had 19 comments, then I posted on it. However, the article page continued showing only 19 comments, while on the front page and the forum, it was up to 23 comments including my own. In that case, I switched to a different browser and I could see all 23 comments on the article page. (I think I logged in on both browsers, I can't recall)
