Ump Jerry Meals is Unstoppable!

Did he cost the game? No way you can say that. However, the Kepler AB was so egregious that you also don't know what might have occurred with an "honest" and competant zone in play. Hit, walk, advance of the runners? It's a shame we'll never know.

It's a simple fact of humans being humans that an ump may miss a call or two and different umps will have slight variations in their strike zone. It's a human factor and not a declaration for robot strike zone calls. But how can someone be that utterly and obviously incompetent and have a ML job?

But thank you, Tom, for providing some real humor from a dark moment.

He might have to go in the Ump hall of shame for those calls especially the one way, way wide.  I Wonder if another ump has ever called three straight balls strikes before?  Two of them were close the one just outside gets called more often than not so not too bad on that one but the one that was low most umps don't give the pitcher that low below the strike zone call much at all.  Not sure why he would give the punch out on such a borderline pitch but I guess he was itching to say strike three.  The one way, way outside he must have closed his eyes and guessed it was a strike because that is pretty embarrassing to call that a strike.  I mean that is one where you lose your umpire license due to extreme negligence.

Hopefully he apologized to Kep after the game, oh thats right, umpires are never wrong so I guess that won't happen.

A missed call here and there is generally no big deal as it tends to even out but calling two different strike zones makes me wonder if the guy had a bet on the game or was helping a friend or something.  It just seems odd that it would be THAT different with lots of calls way outside being called strikes for Milwaukee.  Hopefully the league reviews this stuff and takes it seriously.
