Okay, bighat, where's this?

Tough one, as old Spanish cathedrals are a dime a dozen. Could be in Solola, maybe Xela? Doesn't look like Antigua to me - but the cobblestone street and red paintwork on the curb certainly indicates it very well could be. I think La Merced is a little brighter yellow. The church in Solola is orange, but I don't recall that detailed workmanship near the entrance.

4a Calle Poniente 22. A place called Ezenario Historico, so not actually a church, although it definitely looks like it.

I used to live in Antigua, gorgeous little town up in the mountains. However, my lady's Guatemalan and she inherited a house in Villa Nueva, so we moved into this place as you can't beat the price. That said, it's kind of like inheriting a house in Youngstown or Toledo or something - if you had your choice, you might wish that house was located elsewhere. On top of that it's a real fixer-upper. Anyway, we were down here in March re-doing the kitchen and ended up stuck down here because the airport's been closed, and we're still here.

Spay-neuter programs don't really exist here, every once in a while a non-profit or NGO comes down and holds a 2-3 day clinic where people take their actual pets, but not the strays. Hundreds of animals get seen to, it's a real chop-a-thon. But stray animals here are just part of the landscape - owned by no-one but fed and taken care of by members of the community who can't watch them starve.

I know this sounds horrible, but you are better off not feeding the strays. Feeding them helps their reproductive systems ... unless you are going to trap and spay/neuter ... it's actually not helpful to just keep feeding strays as it adds to the stray population. They also then become dependent on you for food.

So . . . you have to be cruel to be kind?
