Extra inning rules change-- more ideas.

Since they are proposing starting an extra inning with a guy on 2nd I thought let us add some more rule changes. The first rule is satire. But, I like the other 3.

1. Cardboard figures in the OF. If you hit one you get a HR.

2. Any ball hit over 450 feet counts as a 2 run HR. Therefore you could drive in 5 runs on one swing.

3. Have one guy in CF bleachers mostly grass at least in my ballpark who can catch a HR ball for an out. This might make things interesting and fun. No OF bleachers well in your OF bullpen.

4. If you hit an inside ballpark home run, the run counts, but, you can, also, try to go to 1st base to see if you can get a 5 base hit. I actually think this would have been a good rule to have from 1900. We wouldn't say oh you are changing our sacred rules.

Others dealing with the play on the field? The cardboard was far fetched. Not like bikini clad gals bringing baseballs to the umps.

Cheerleaders are a thing of the past, sorry, so please don’t even go down that road.

I prefer the idea of maximum innings—say, games tied after 12 innings end in a tie. Or not starting an inning after four hours has passed (the occasional 9-inning game is reaching 3.5 hours now.) The runner on second is too gimmicky and interferes with the integrity of the scoring.

Back in the day (March or April, when the world was still young) I also liked the idea of 7-inning doubleheaders, but lol we’ll be lucky to get a 50-game season at all at this point.

Great ideas! Everyone's clamoring for more excitement, what better way that interacting with the fans on social media. A couple ideas on the table:

1. Twitter and MLB have teamed up for the new "Teenz-Call-The-Shotz". Now, young hip fans can vote on where to position the outfielders for every at-bat. Want to position Buxton right behind 2nd base? Have Max Kepler sit on the limestone ledge? Nothing's out of bounds, so get ready for some whacky and hilarious scenarios!

2. Tik-Tok's in the game, too! The hip new app has launched "You Be the Manager", which lets the fans with the most creative Tik-Tok videos get to call the pitches for the 9th inning! Hold on to your hats, this is going to make those save situations a lot more interesting!

3. Fans in the stands look like they're getting bored? Not anymore! Here comes the "BINGO BALL"!  If the Twins facebook page gets enough "likes" in the 7th inning, the opposing pitcher will be forced to throw one gold baseball to every batter in the inning.  If the batter gets a hit, that's an automatic run (plus free nachos for all the fanz).

4. What's a ballgame without music? Spotify's got the fans covered in 2020 - for just $5, you can enter to have your playlist featured throughout the game. Your playlist will continue for 9 straight innings, and it won't stop during game play!

I'm thinking of rules that won't render past statistics obsolete. Like because too many HRs are being hit because the OF walls are moved effecting HR stats have a designated OF who doesn't bat be behind the OF wall, but, not in the bleachers. CF grass behind the wall so fans can watch him catch an out and then try to keep a runner from advancing one or so bases like first to second would be ideal like in my ballpark.

Then the 450 foot homer which would count as 2 runs is pretty rare, but, to see one. I've seen a couple hit in the upper deck by Pujols and a Pete Incaviglia in the old Busch Stadium. It won't effect stats like the DH did:( A 5-run walk-off HR ending the game with the winning team winning by 1 might be a once in a decade or two event.

A triple is an exciting play if there is a throw to third. HRs are mostly exciting if it puts your team ahead otherwise they are boring. They're taking away the hard slide into 2nd and crashing into the catcher and umpire arguments due to replays so make a few changes that don't destroy the record book.

And having a batter travel to five bases such as a wild throw after an inside the park homerun would be a rule that could haave been in the rules in 1900 and we wouldn't question. Ty Cobb would have the record for 5 basers since the OF was so big.

Having 8 men bat and no DH was an idea, but, baseball is about 3's and 9's.

The day there are ties in baseball will be the day that I, sadly, can no longer be a fan of the game I love.

Wait, I thought we were joking here. Wasn't the point to make fun and complain about the candy-a$$ new rules?

You can joke. That runner on second to start an extra inning makes the game a comedy.

In the spirit of the forum I will come up some interesting rules.  I am not advocating for them, nor do I like the current change to extra inning games.

How about for extra innings go to 1 pitch at bats?  If it is a strike, including foul balls, you are out.  If is a ball you walk.

To prevent shifts, all players are tethered to poles in ground and cannot get detached.  Sure whip lash may be a problem, but imagine Buxton going full speed to catch ball in gap and oh ran out of slack and he gets pulled back.  Yes the tethers will make sure that between all fielders they can cover every inch of the field, but no players will ever cross paths.  This will also prevent collisions on the field.

How about for this season only, since no fans in stands, if player can get into stands to get the ball it is still live.  Meaning foul ball if player can get into stands, we would have to remove the safety net, since it will not longer serve a purpose protecting empty seats, and the fielder catches it, that is an out.  In addition, if a ball would be normal HR, even if it lands in stands if player can get to it he can throw it back into play just like it was off the wall.

If extra innings go beyond 3 innings, then they do a three legged relay race around the bases. Oh wait that is not socially distancing so that is a no go.  Maybe we just have a live tic toc dance off and the "fans" vote for who wins.  The next signing will be the top rated tic toc person(not even sure if that is a thing) and they will ride the bench until it is their time to shine, I mean we got 30 players right.

Anyone remember baseball simulator 1000?  If you do not look it up, but lets bring in their power ups that can be used one time per game.

Much like at carnaval, if  Pitcher can predict their next pitch speed, they get an auto strike, but if they are wrong it auto ball, unless pitch is put in play, however, hitter cannot be struck out via this method, you at least need to give them a chance.

To prevent possible cheating sign stealing, since the use of in game video screen will be pointless, the center field camera will constantly shown on the screen for all to see.  This will make it fair for all then.

Finally, coaches challenges will not be decided by replay review, but by test of strength by each manager.  That is decided by the home manager by what test of strength will be used.
