Terry Ryan Confused?

I won't be worried about Ryan is doing (or not) until good starting pitchers start coming off the market (or an available SS is acquired by someone for what the Twins could have done). Nothing real has happened for any team yet.

How many teams have so many glaring problems to fix with no immediate help in sight from the farm system? Are there teams needing 4 starting pitchers, a shortstop a 2B and a 3B?

"TR built a World Series contender. .

Excuse me?

When? World Series?

Only once the TR teams moved to the ALCS and then that team lost. In his time as a GM he built teams that were winning AL Central championships often and then bowed out in the post-season in the 2000s and teams that were in the basement in the 90s and 2010s so far.

C'mon seriously do you really have a problem with the moves so far? Your statement is absolutely correct but I have a hard time believing you feel as if something different should have happened by now, unless you advocate just throwing as much money as possible to someone so that they can't say no, a real sound strategy and one I know you wouldn't advoacte.

The point is nothing big has really happened and it won't until the big names start coming off the board, Ryan can't force paper to pen with any of these guys and we all know the top of the class isn't coming anyway.

Well I'll never claim to being as wise as you but I would call any team that moved to a league championship game a World Series contender. Anytime you're within 8 wins of winning it all, you're a contender.

With playoffs being such a small sample, stuff happens.

Dont have a problem with what Ryan is doing. Look how many times we had to go rochester for help last year

If they would have signed better pitchers they wouldn't have called up all those "quality" arms form Rochester. Obviously no decent pitcher is going to sign before Zach Greinke signs his deal. by looking at the free agent SP there are about 15-20 good starters to choose from and the Twins need to add 3 arms by either FA or trade. So I guess the best thing to do is sit back and do nothing until after the Winter meetings and then we can have another season of disappointment...

Well there you go, what do you suggest TR should have done by now then, sign Greinke? You've successfully contradicted yourself.

Technically, three wins in 04 (to be a WS contender).

The Owner's meeting is this week. Any huge deals are probably going to need owner approval at least, so I don't expect to see any key figures sign until after those meetings.

And whoever mentioned it earlier is probably right, no decent starting pitcher is going to sign before Grienke does. They want to see what he gets, and judge their salaries against that.

Another key deadline is Dec 2nd, the last day to offer contracts. While it won't really matter to "star" players, a lot of the mid level free agents will probably benefit from holding out until after then, when it becomes a little clearer exactly which teams have which holes.
