Ball Game On

This is a small thing in our big world, but--

It's 9:20 PM in HK right now, and I am watching live baseball from Taiwan.

Just now, the Monkeys put up a 5-spot in the top of the ninth to storm back and lead the Brothers 8-6, until the Brothers tied it up with 2

in the bottom of the 9th!

We're going to extras...

Cheers, y'all.

For those of you on pins and needles-- the Brothers came up with 2 runs in the top of the 12th to take the win over the Monkeys, 10-8.

And if you needed a good chuckle, check the translated version of the play-by-play here, to find out just how the Brothers scored...  :jump:

How dare the Chinese & South Koreans have professional baseball & have fun, don`t they know that there is covid19 outbreak! Maybe they love their baseball more than we do! Where they made up their mind right away to responsibly have baseball. Here again I`m not saying  not to take covid19 serious & not be responsible. From the beginning I`ve advocated to take it serious but we can`t be controlled by fear

Both the US and South Korea reported their first cases at the about the same time.  South Korea response to COVID19 was swift and concise.  They were much better prepared for it and responded quickly with widespread testing.  That's why they are where they are at with professional baseball.  Hopefully the US won't be too far behind.  Until then, it'll be KBO and other sources for the world's greatest sport.

NBA expecting to need 15,000 tests to resume, for 30-35 essential personnel per team:

https://sports.yahoo.com/nba-expects-to-need-15000-coronavirus-tests-to-restart-season-amid-pandemic-033746053.html

So that’s a peek under the hood for the NBA. Subject to change obviously. No idea if that’s doable—I will hope it is, but it’s not doable yet.

I’ve always assumed the NBA will just go directly into their playoffs when they return (so, 15,000 tests for 16 teams). My ballpark estimate would be each MLB baseball team will have twice as many essential personnel as an NBA team, and the NFL twice as many per team as MLB. To say nothing of colleges and leagues on down.

Correct.

Both Taiwan and SKorea responded to the challenge swiftly and decisively. Widespread testing and contact tracing was the key, and remains so. They squashed the curve very quickly because of it, and gradually, they are both on a path to a sense of normal. Needless to say, they responded far better than some other countries have, even in 2 nations that have massively crowded urban populations in some cities.

Of course, there are no fans at the games yet. That probably won't happen for some time to come, but slowly, life is returning to some semblance of normal because their leaders did the right thing at the right time, and their populace acted responsibly, and continue to do so.

While the quality of play might not quite be what we're used to, surely all those assassinations and guerrillas add an element of suspense to the game! :)
