Hill and Bailey

No doubt an article is on its way, but Rich Hill and Homer Bailey are signed, per MLB Trade Rumors.

Remainder bin shopping, IMO, but sometimes you find usable merchandise there. At least we don't go into Spring Training with 2 established starters and 3 rotation spots manned by rookies while waiting for Pineda to be available. Instead we add two maybes.

If in the unlikely event these both really pan out, and our rotation is full when Pineda re-enters the picture, thus shutting out the rookies, that's the proverbial nice problem to have. If they remain intriguing with potential but not performance, then that's a problem less nice.

RIP impactful trade

Yeah...I think this is the most upsetting part of these moves. It makes it obvious they don't plan on acquiring a SP via trade. I suppose they still could since Pineda and Hill won't start the season in the rotation but it seems unlikely.

Now the HAVE to sign Donaldson. And even that won't make me happy with this offseason.

I’m excited for the “Dick Mountain” jersey during player’s weekend.....that’s about it. Bailey, if healthy, is a #5 starter at this point. Hill can be an “impact” pitcher when healthy. These are good signings if bigger acquisitions happen before spring training.

Don't hold your breath.

They are 1 year deals. Exactly what this FO wanted all along. At this point I want Graterol and Duran up here fighting for a rotation spot. If we won't move them, let's use them. #5 starters can be anyone. There aren't very many good ones throughout the league. I'd guess at least one of these guys they just signed gets DFAed before the trade deadline.

Hill & Bailey must have less concern about the taxes in MN and their wife/significant other must have been able to find employment.

Good for them!

Haha.

These guys probably couldn't be any more tickled pink. They both were set to be signed by a team with no chance at best. Now they get a chance to be in the rotation for a team that won 101 games last year.

If they still trade for Jon Gray or someone who is a top 3 arm in our rotation, sure fine, extra arms can't hurt. If not this is exactly opposite of what they said they were doing and just continued the tradition of dumpster diving and disappointing Twins fans. I trusted Falvine and this is annoying.

They had to do something...Bailey was fine last year, about on par with Gibson. Hill was very good (but will miss the first half). Will be curious what the terms are.

This doesn't preclude a potential trade for an "impact" pitcher.
