They aren't going to trade for anyone. Teams like the Red Sox are trading guys that have contracts that are too big for "them", think now the twins will have to spend the money and the prospects. I mean, it doesn't do Boston any good to trade someone and eat their contracts, because their goal is to get under the luxury tax.

May as well switch focus to the next window. Rosario, Cruz, Buxton, Sano, Rodgers and Berrios likely won't be here for it. Think of all the prospects they can net!

Yeah, they might have to buy another A ball team to fit them all into the system.

Falvine can spin this however they'd like. However, it is THEIR JOB to convince players to sign here.

It is pretty unfathomable that they can go into a season with 2.5 starting pitchers, one of which is likely to regress big time.

Agree! It is their job to convince players to sign here. In the business world it's also called recruiting. Too bad they couldn't get a high impact player this off-season.

I wonder what the Twins players are thinking?

To me, this is the most reasonable deal any of the top-five free agent starting pitchers received. Ryu was my guy heading into the offseason because it always appeared things would end up this way.

The Twins should have definitely matched the offer. Everybody ended up getting more than projected, but seeing Keuchel get a deal that potentially maxes out at $74 million made me think Ryu had a decent shot at $100 million.

Even at $88-$90 million over four years I think Ryu would have been reasonable, considering the way the market has played out.

Toronto has a pretty large Asian population and I would guess that had a strong influence on his decision. He will likely get endorsements and other things we couldn’t possibly offer. It’s not all about who pays the most money. These are human beings who want the best for their families.

We are going to need to face facts and understand that in a great many instances we won’t be considered for the extras. We don’t have a warm climate, taxes are high, it’s not a place that will lure Latin players, we have a history of losing in the playoffs.

All in all, this is not a real big deal in the grand scheme of things. Today it feels bad because we lost out on a free agent, but let’s be practical. Ryu is a guy who won’t hold up for very long. He got his pay day so he’s happy, but if I’m a Jays fan I’m wary.

And we all know damn well that Donaldson isn't coming here, let's stop lying to ourselves about that one.

I think most of us knew deep down that Ryu wasn't coming here either. The Twins have egg on their faces and this team is developing a reputation of a place where nobody wants to sign. The crazy thing is, they had such a great season and one of the best ballparks in the league - and they also have cash! The Twins look like the ugly girl at the school dance and I'm kinda embarrassed for them, frankly.

Whether I have gone through the seven stages already, I have accepted where we are and think ultimately we are still in the best position for continued to success.  Ryu was the one pitcher I really wanted, but it doesn't sound like the Twins were that interested.  I do like that the Twins are being selective and to a certain degree getting deals they know they can win on.  Doing the year to year deals will leave you in a lurch, and I question going into a season with only 2 solid mlb pitchers for the first month.  That sounds like a recipe for disaster.  There needs to be more work there.

There is still potential to add bats to the lineup and possibly arbitrage Rosario, by trading him for a piece and then getting another RF bat such as Nicholas Castellanos who would fit being a younger player only 28.

Im going to give it an incomplete at this point.  Ultimately I would like for the Twins to be competitive for the next 10 years with 7 postseason births and 1 to 2 chances at winning it all.  If they can set us up for that success, I could care less what path and what free agents they sign to get us there.  They provided us more success that we expected last year so lets see what they do this year.

I feel like the biggest fool in Twinsland. I actually believed the FO when they said we would pursue "impact pitching."    I'm almost 60 years old and I was gullible enough to believe their BS.  I really should have known better,as this is the Twins after all. I suppose I just wanted to believe so badly. I just wanted to think that our current FO was different. But alas. we will now end up dumpster diving and bargain shopping, just as we always do. No matter what Falvey and Levine say, I should have known better.

Stop with the excuses. We didn't get Keuchel or Ryu because we wouldn't pay what it took to get them. Period.

Don't worry, guys ... Randy Dobnak is better than we think. And Homer Bailey is WAY better than Wheeler and is still available. And the Wonder Twins are pitching gurus, so they'll be able to identify the next Cole and pick him up for pennies on the dollar - in prospects. And if none of those work, there's plenty of depth at AAA. And there's the trade deadline where no other teams will be looking for pitching so there will be less competition. And ...

Cue the spin machine.

Yeah, I'd be really nervous, with that young controllable lineup with Gurriel, Biggio, Guerrero, Bichette, and now so far they have a rotation of Ryu, Anderson, Roark, Shoemaker, and Thornton. I wouldn't be surprised if Toronto or Chicago beat the Twins out for Price too.

I mean look at Chicago's rotation

Giolito

Gio Gonzalez

Keuchel

Reynaldo Lopez

With Kopech coming off of Tommy John

Rodan will come off of Tommy John mid season,

And I guess Cease will factor in there somewhere.

Not really looking good for the Twins.

LOL.

Another new built in excuse for failing to land a team changing FA.

The Twins continue to prove they are the biggest frauds in baseball. There is no sugarcoating this - they have failed on EVERY free agent pitcher available that was a likely game changer for the 2020 season.

They won't trade away their beloved prospects and they won't go out and sign free agent pitchers. So what are the options? Their hope is to continue finding flash in the pan guys like Dobnak, Thorpe, Smeltzer, etc. and are banking on the rest of the division being garbage.

What an absolute failure by this FO so far.

When is Luis Roberts coming up to make impact?

I honestly thought a 3/66 would get him. A 4/80 just means that last season is low risk in terms of outlay. This FO has failed since the start of the 2018-19 off season to acquire what is most glaringly needed.

I bet we 'weren't comfortable' with the 4th year...maybe they did offer 20+ for 3 years.  If that is the case what they are saying is we weren't "comfortable" paying an extra say 15 mill...but they dipped a toe in the pool.  I was in the camp of giving them the benefit of the doubt until Dallas signed with the South Siders and now this...things that make you go hmmmm?

It's incredible that the Twins Organization has managed to completely kill every piece of momentum that the 101 win Bomba Squad created for them.

All the "kicking down the door" talk and "impact pitching" promises just ended up being complete BS. My big fear isn't a financial one. I don't think the Twins are necessarily afraid to spend money. I think they have a crippling fear of spending money poorly and I'm worried that the front office, honestly, just doesn't understand the market/situation.

I know they can still add pitching via trade, but that should always be last resort. We could've added pitching for just money. Now it will cost money and your precious prospects.

Good job proving the trolls correct, front office. You really fouled up what should've been an incredible opportunity.

And this is coming from someone who 99.9% of the time is defending the decisions made by the front office.

Cheap and stubborn. That is what we have here. They absolutely HAD to sign one of these top 3-4 guys to slot in between Berrios and Odorizzi. Plus they need to trade for another arm to slot in there in the 4-5th spot.

Free agents accross the league just saw this offseason happen, expect to never get the benefit of the doubt until the team is sold.

They are the smartest GMs in all of baseball though, so have faith. I'm sure our #22 prospect will net us that ace that no one else in baseball knows about except Falvine.
