Any chance of a Sano to Texas?

Sorry if this is covered somewhere else. I'm not a Sano hater, but is there any chance they could trade him to Texas? Texas lost out on Rendon, and have an obvious need at third and they seem ready to start going all in in with the new ballpark, is there any chance the Twin's sell somewhat high on Sano after he finished strong last year? He's only got two years left of arbitration and they could use a defensive upgrade on the left side, this would also leave first base open for a cheaper option. Just wondering if they could get anything interesting pieces to go with the next wave of young guys. I'm not someone who feels they have to move Sano but I feel like Texas might be motivated to make a splash, and they do not seem to be afraid of taking on some risk.

Wouldn't that just create a hole at 3B....and 1B for the Twins for that matter?

This kind of post should make your front office happy. Trade one of our cornerstones for prospects and lottery tickets to build for the future. You also said they could then get someone cheaper to play 1B. How fun. Keep kicking the can down the road, it's a certaintly this Lewis kid is the next coming of A-rod.

They trade Sano, it better have an ACE attached to the other side. Otherwise Target field will probably be burnt down.

Maybe they sign Donaldson, use an in-house option at first and skip trying to figure out what to do with Sano next year when he only has one year left. He's a great hitter but is defensively limited and they need spots for their young hitters coming up. If they get any prospects it could partially offset any that you trade for a starting pitcher upgrade.

I have no trouble trading Sano for value at some point between now and when he becomes a free agent...if you get value...and if you have other answers for offensive production at third, at first, and at DH. Absolutely must have offensive production at those positions. There seems to be some sentiment here that the Twins would be better off with almost any available bat that provides better defense than Sano at third. That's just wrong. We all wish Sano was better there with the glove, nevertheless high-end offense is way more valuable than defense...especially at third/first base. It makes no sense to replace Sano at third (or at first) with anything other than high-end bats. Doing so makes the Twins worse, not better.

Maybe if you get the Rays involved sending Blake Snell back our way, with other pieces from TX and MN going back to Florida.

Now something like this could get interesting.  Especially if tied to their signing an above average corner infielder...yes, Donaldson would be an option.

Don't know if it has to be the Rays with Snell or someone else.  But a top pitcher coming back is a must. Maybe not an ACE, but certainly a #1 or #2 from a strong staff would make sense.

And when done with these two transactions, go all in on getting Berrios and Buxton extended for several years.

There's no return the Rangers could offer the Twins to make this happen. The Rangers want to compete and would be offering prospects for Sano to help them win now. We may already go into the season mixing and matching at one corner infield spot. Opening another one for more future talent would be a disaster.

I too would question what the Twins could expect back from Texas...but I have a BluePrint somewhere with a major FA signing at 3B (it was Rendon but JD could work) followed by a few Trades

Trade 1 - Twins and Pirates

Twins Get:

Josh Bell, Chris Archer, Starling Marte - You maybe go after Musgrove instead of Archer

Pirates and Coach Shelton get some friendly faces:

Sano, Kirilloff, Enlow, Gordon, Rortvedt, Cave, Thorpe

Trade 2 - Twins and Reds

Twins flip Marte and other pieces if need be to the Reds for one of their Starting Pitchers

Sonny Gray

DeSclafani

Bauer

This is roughly based off trades Jim Bowden posted for Marte and Bell

Starling Marté for 3B Jonathan India OF Jesse Winker RHP Tyler Mahle

Josh Bell for 3B Miguel Andújar 1B Luke Voit RHP Roansy Contreras

We still don't know what a Miguel Sano for an entire, or close to entire, season is. I would love to see him show up for spring training in great shape, start on opening day and play 150 games or so. Same for a guy named Buxton for that matter.

Exactly, trading him now you aren't going to get a ton. Have him play a full season and OPS .900 or so with 40 bombs and all of a sudden he's worth a pile.
