Front Page: The Five Stages of Twins Free Agency Grief

Might as well contract MLB to 6 Teams, Yankees, Red Sox, Braves, Phillies, Angels, Dodgers. Have the other teams play in MLB2. They could be considered AAAA.

There is a major problem with $$$ in MLB right now and the only way small market teams can compete is by drafting their own talent. Screw up there and you won't compete for a long time. AND NO, making the playoffs and losing in the 1st round is NOT competing.

What about the Giants. Three WS wins in the past 10 years and 4th overall in revenue. Astros are doing quite well too. Got to include the Cubs too. They have the 5th most revenue. The Cubs are just suffering the effects of 3 big contracts producing very little which is enough to nullify much of their revenue advantage.  However, you have an undeniable point. The revenue gap has grown wide between the top and the bottom.

The big market teams have gotten smarter. Billy Beane was on Jim Duquette's show a few days ago talking about how all the teams value assets the same now. In the past, big market teams traded away prospects for proven talent. The premium paid for the immediate production ended up favoring the teams trading for prospects. Obviously, the big market teams are placing a greater premium on prospects. The Dodgers are a great example (Duquette did not use this example). Going back a few years they acquired several proven players and had a massive payroll. That produced mediocre teams. Their most productive players are homegrown now. The biggest FA expenditure since  Andrew Friedman took over was Kenley Jansen and they don't trade top prospects.

The NFL and the MLB are very different.  MLB contracts are often times fully guaranteed, where is the NFL contracts are not.  There is also a salary cap in the NFL.  I will not get into a Cousins debate with you because we obviously have different views on that as well.  Cousins is pretty much in the Top 5 of every QB stat across the board this year.  I don't know what else a lot of Viking fans want.

Well, anything less than a Super Bowl championship is a failure. Thankfully the Cousins deal was only 3 years so they can start to phase him out in 2020. Although in typical Vikings fashion they have nobody set up as a replacement for Cousins. Let's hope that Cousins can dip deep over the next two months, find a gear he has never used before, and sees some playoff success. All signs point to another disappointing (and expected) wild card round loss for our Purple.

This should be a staple going into every winter for Twins fans:

Fool me once, shame on you.

Fool me twice? hmmmmmmmmm

I can't remember the rest, but 43 had it down pat!

Or one could accept the reality that the Yankees had 400M MORE revenue than the Twins. At a 50% ratio, that gives them 200M more to spend on payroll and remain within the MLB "accepted" criteria.

If it were left at “patronizing,” that would be a good thing.

They openly insult the intelligence of people who think the Twins should spend some money on some good players. It’s insanity. Phil Mackey literally came out and called people “morons,” this week, based on the fact that he himself leaks rumors that they were “in on a guy.”

I can tell you this. I was a regular listener the SKOR North Twins show. I won’t listen to another second of it as long as that garbage hack Phil Mackey is in there.

Same with the ultimate hack Doogie. He’s a total loser hack (makes things up or rips them off from other people and throws “my sources tell me” or “I’m hearing” onto it, then insults people who call him out). He’s another one that I go out of my way to ensure I don’t provide a red cent, or even a click, to.

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood.

I’m now 50 and have watched many Winter meetings come and go. I believe, from what I’m reading in this post, that for the last 20 years I have reached a permanent level of acceptance. Except every October when I slip into two days of Anger, I HATE the Yankees, and then depression for a week or two.
