New ownership.  Andrew Kaufman out of Jacksonville.

Here is his take on the change (yes this is a serious quote):

"Think Disney, but edgy."

Andy Kaufman? This all makes sense now.

And what a relief, I heard he was dead.

I agree with your fiancee.....

A testicle emerging from a vagina. That is going to sell well...

Sort of the way University of South Carolina apparel that has their shortened team name sells like hot cakes..it has nothing to do with the school for sure.

Humor aside, affiliations change. Every holiday the past few seasons I look to buy a cap for myself and my father for a team we don't have yet. Hell, we have Rockcats and Lookout caps we display or wear at times. I promise you I will NOT be ordering any items from this ridiculous change.

I like goofy MiLB team names and mascots, so I like this. That font could defnitely be better, though.

I like goofy team names too ... to a certain extent. But this one makes my head hurt. And the logo is pretty darn bland for such a "creative" team name.

The "Miracle" was one of the worst names in sports - hearing they finally changed it was a relief.....only to see they somehow made it worse.

When you have an opportunity to rebrand, do it right. This rebranding effort looks like it was designed by a couple high schoolers on a "career day" field trip or something.

Lookouts apparel is about as good as it comes.  I regret not purchasing their game jerseys when they switch from blue and white to black and red.

Also, SERIOUSLY?  Terrible.  The colors, mascot, logo, everything.  They should've had a fan voting, much like the Gwinnett Stripers had when they changed names.  Could you imagine sitting in this meeting?

Pitch Guy: "I got it.  I got it.  Guys, how about the Fort Myers........Mighty Mussels?"

Everyone else in the room: "Genius."

So do the Twins own the complez and ownership the team?

Centurylink Sport Complex is owned by Lee County, I think, or the city of Fort Myers. It isn’t owned by the Twins nor the Miracle, er... Mussels, owner.

The most annoying thing about this is that somebody likely got paid actual money to come up with it.

I live in South Dakota. I find no spending comparably frivilous as the state's current ad campaign.

One thing to consider with names like this is how many names and logos are trademarked. It becomes a minefield for teams when they attempt to re-brand.

As far as the Miracle name, there are mixed stories on that, but Fort Myers did sue Florida (now Miami) over the Marlins name, as that was the team name in the city for many years.

I don't mind it.

I've always hated team names that are uncountable nouns.

"Wild," you're next.

In 1997 when the NHL had awarded an expansion team to Minnesota there was some discussion (and maybe even a contest?) to name the new team. I came up an idea for name that I didn't share it with anyone at the time but now I think I should have.

The name I came up with was a variation on Vikings. Vikings were sailors from Norway. As anyone who has done crossword puzzles knows, the term "tar" is a slang term for sailor. And another term for "Norwegian" is "Norse". So I thought it would be fitting for the team to be named the Minnesota Norse Tars.
