Front Page: Who Could the Twins Trade this Offseason?

Recommended Posts

The red Sox win the world series, and brought back the team.... It doesn't always work out. Teams don't always get better, or even stay the same.

That out of the way....I predict a decent sized trade of multiple prospects for a pitcher with at least two years of control left.

I'd consider sending Buxton and change to Atlanta for a AAA pitcher the FO loves and their AAA third baseman, if they sign a third baseman.

Would anyone think a trade of Miguel Sano and 2 prospects from #6 on to Atlanta for Christian Pache and Kyle Wright or Ian Anderson works? Fun to watch Sano though. I'm finding it hard to be serious about trades without knowing how other teams value our players. At this point it is all ideas, and prospects don't really compare well with players that have performed and are part of the core team. I also considered a trade of Garver and Gonzalez plus 2 prospects from #6 on to Cincy for Luis Castillo. This also seems unlikely for them. They do need a catcher that hits and could really use a player like Marwin. Just ideas ..

Keep our prospects. Sign Rendon at 3B and Cron at 1B. Trade Sano, Buxton, Rosario and Polonco for Pitching. Move Kepler to CF. Bring up Kirilloff and Larnach to play LF and RF and Lewis to play SS.

Pitching wins Championships. What did the HR record get us anyway. Not a Championship! The juiced ball will slowly go away and this team, the way it is, has a hard time manufacturing runs without the long ball.

if your best is a number 3 in a post-season competitive team,  you are better of trading him for someone who would be a number 1...  This team needs 2 starters better than Berrios to compete in the post-season, and Odorizzi can slide at number 3 without much drop from Berrios

Why would a team trade a #1 for a #3? The only reason a team trades a legit #1 SP is for a haul of prospects or prospects plus salary relief.

Per sweetmusicviola," My sentiments. 2020 is not the year to start selling off the pieces we've been waiting for for the past decade. That includes Sano and Buxton as well. Sign Cole or Strasburg. And Ryu and have a great rotation. We don't need steps backward."

Bang Boom. Couldn't agree more except for the fact that Strasburg and Cole are out of the picture unless either one would agree to the Twins' terms. If the Twins agree to their agents' terms heaven help the Twins. Twins have to be able to find a reliable starting pitcher somewhere. If Pineda comes back and Gibson comes back healthy they could still have a competitive rotation with one sensible addition.

2020 has to be the year that both Buxton and Sano put in an entire season to see what they really can do over 162 games. If either one doesn't show up at Fort Myers ready to go shame on the Twins.

Other than that keep as much of the team that won 101 games and go for it.

Brusdar Graterol MIN for Gregory Polanco PIT

we lose some immediate RP depth and possibly SP help down the road if they stretched graterol out. But gain a impact bat and huge defensive upgrade at LF over Eddie Rosario.

Trade Eddie Rosario MIN for bullpen help.

Anyone will do

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Not an impact bat! Rosario is a much better player than he is.

This is a net loss of the nth degree here. Plus you are giving up one of, if not your best pitching prospect for him! Heck no.

Also BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Trade away half your starting lineup for who exactly?

Start 3 rookies that haven't even hit AA or AAA pitching yet. Increase your strikeouts, errors and HRs, and decrease your OBP, SLG, defensive range, and veteran prescense. Hmmmm?

I think the biggest decision that needs to be made is by the Twins ownership.

Do we a)  commit to building on a 101 win season and the financial resources needed for that commitment or B)  go back to playing it half way.

I think the Twins kept their fans in continuous purgatory for almost a decade because insted of committing to a full rebuild mode they always played it half way.   While I did not see the 2019 101 wins (nor did anyone really otherwise why did the Twins trade Ryan Pressley and others at the 2018 deadline), playing it half way could just send us back to reality when we don't have a season were every hitter has a career year.

While I don't see the Cole/Strasboug signings, I think they need to make another $15-20 million commitment on a starting pitcher and another for a position player, preferably a 3B.  Then they can make some more middle of the road moves by trading some 2nd element prospects/Rosario to get a closer.

Make a commitment to Graterol as a part of the rotation.

I think that would be a very good team.

Polanco is a DH playing the outfield in the NL and still guaranteed 24M while only once being an above average batter. I think Pittsburgh would give him away if someone would take his whole salary.

I would prefer that myself. My concern would be is if Sano is ready for 1B yet.

I'm not sure what you mean by "ready". He might not be good over there, but he's not good at 3B either. He will do less damage at 1B IMO. He will probably DH by 2021. I suppose that's argument for leaving him at 3B and trying to gut out 1 more year. But even once he's DHing it would be good to have him split time at 1B.
