PS Game Thread "Luke" Twins vs Yankees 7:40pm cdt 10/7/2019ad

Recommended Posts

Honestly, I think we should appreciate that we are on the longest postseason losing streak in the history of American sports. Like actually think about that. Someday, hopefully in the not to distance future, we will be popping champagne after winning our 11th (or 12 if it takes the WC) win of the postseason and we will think back to this streak and laugh.

Until next year folks

Unfettered optimism. I admire you

For some odd reason it makes me feel better knowing that this is as bad as it gets (as far as postseason success goes). It can only go up from here, that is assuming the streak is eventually snapped lol

We're a long way from knowing whether the current drafting people will make the same colossal failures.

But we do know they keep taking hitters in the first, decreasing the odds of getting a great pitcher. If your plan is to trade for them, you actually have to trade for them.

Is there anyone alive who still doubts the psychological factors that were at play here? The pressing. You could see it and feel it. The names and faces change but the players clearly feel what us fans are feeling. To deny that exists is to deny reality

And 29 teams will be judged as failures.

It was a great regular season, but that's not the goal.

Exactly. The Twins should not be satisfied about their season. Being satisfied with this performance is not what a winning organization would want, but I'm afraid it's exactly what Rocco will preach.

Doesn't change the fact that pitching was our glaring issue well before the trade deadline and we did practically nothing to upgrade.

I agree

For tonight... I'm going to bed. Tomorrow I'll go to the movies.

I'll look for something to laugh about. If I find something... I'll feel normal again.

Well yeah, by definition, but it kind of waters down the meaning of the word and renders it useless for discussion purposes.

Hey, the object of the game is to win, right? The Tigers won 47 times this season. Success!

The Yankees had pitching, clutch hitting and incredible defense.

I think it's Ok to say that they earned this.  :)

They entered the series as the Twins' El Guapo of the 21st century, and they left it as the Twins' grinning, laughing El Guapo of the 21st century.

They looked like the better team regardless of our history with them, but it would've been nice if the Twins had done more to make them FEEL like they earned it.

In any case, it really was a cool season, even if they hadn't set a record or reached a hundred wins. They claimed the division for the first time in a decade, and saw some real breakthroughs in a young, promising roster.

When the aftertaste of this crappy series wears off, it's gonna feel like a really good season.

Maybe the Cubs and Cleveland are stupid about drafting, too.

Mike, don't even pretend that you or I know how to draft baseball players.

The Cubs aren't in the playoffs because they have no pitching. It's obvious on its face that earlier picks are more likely to work than later ones.

Yankees Red Sox 04. Changed the course of baseball history. One day we might have to do that

Yeah, i thought of invoking the memory of this.

David Ortiz was a difference maker in 3 of the 4 wins.

And unherolded was Wakefield taking the late innings of a blow out to save the pen for the rest of the series.

And they went on to see Doug's final out break the curse.

Forget about spending, it won't matter how much they spend. I'd rather watch the kids come up and struggle on a mediocre team than this kind of post season fiasco. Want to know what is sad? I picked the Yankees in 3 because I had a feeling this would happen. I wanted to be proved wrong, but wasn't. Makes the Vikings not look so bad and I didn't know that was possible.

At least the hockey season has started. Don't hate me but I'm a Blackhawks fan (I was born a few blocks from Wrigley Field). When the Stars moved to Texas I eventually pulled my Bobby Hull jersey and signed sticks out of storage and got back into NHL hockey. Fun to watch Kane, Toews, Keith and Crawford take 3 Cups. The Wild are probably better than the Hawks now. I miss Minnesota high school hockey. About the only games I go to now are UNH Wildcats games in Durham, NH, which is close ... Hockey East baby.

Yet the Cubs won the WS just a few years ago using the same method.

Yes, higher pitching draft picks return better than lower draft picks. I mean, duh, of course.

But the failure rate is so much higher that crafty teams are taking a different approach to drafting.

For example, the Rays have drafted a pure* pitcher in the first round once in the past 6-7 years. Are they wrong, too?

*pure is in reference to the Rays dabbling with two-dimensional players but ultimately, I think that will play out in a typically Rays confusing way by the end of things, as the pick they made was neither a great pitcher nor a great hitter, but they'll probably turn him into both

Can anyone here think of another team in Baseball history that has had as epic of a collapse? Maybe the 1990 A's against the Reds?

Collapse implies they were favored to win and failed. That didn't happen here.
