Game Thread: Twins @ KC, 5:15 PM PST (7:15 PM CDT) 9/27/2019

Today is a momentous day, in that I bid farewell to regular season game thread duties.

Hard to believe, 159 games later, it's time to move on,

and look forward to the playoffs. Yes, the playoffs go through "those guys" in a town memorialized by the "Chairman of the Board:"

*Frank's voice is decent but the big band behind Frank makes the song.

This season has been one heck of a ride:

And the ride couldn't have ended in much better fashion. Well, the regular season ride, anyway.

But, one last stop in KC, taking on the Royals and this series also represents the swan song for Mr. Ned Yost. It's going to be a bit odd, not having Ned Yost on the bench when the Twins play KC. I have yet to decide if I'll miss the double steals or not.

And with that, some stuff to amuse, confuse and bemuse:

1. The Twins are going to the playoffs!

2. The Twins are going to the playoffs!

3. The Twins are going to the playoffs!

4. The Twins are going to the playoffs!

What a season.

Starters get hurt?

No problem, play the reserves.

Starting pitching gets a little shaky?

No problem, go to the bullpen.

Well, it was Schoop and Willians yesterday. Who’re the bombaleros today? Torreyes, come on down! How about the leadoff hitter, can he get one too?

Hopefully we see Kep and Marwin by sunday, even saturday , need some a.b. s. or its not looking good, Waiting for Rocco to tell us is never gonna happen,  He has proved that

I just read this:

Max Kepler (shoulder) is expected to be held out of the Twins' lineup for their final weekend series of the regular season.
While Kepler continues to improve, there's no benefit to the Twins to try to rush him back. Manager Rocco Baldelli indicated Friday that both Kepler and Marwin Gonzalez are expected to be ready for Game 1 of the ALDS.

There's supposed to be a lot of rain in the KC area today and tomorrow, as well. Not good news.

Also, it would be really good to see Kep and Marwin in the lineup.

Should get tonight’s game in for sure.

Tomorrow is questionable. Sunday should be okay, but there is no way they would play a double header. I actually wonder who’s decision that is. I would assume either MLB or the home team. If KC insisted on a DH, would the Twins forfeit?

Triple header on Sunday?

It has happened three times, the last being in 1920.

Too bad the CBA apparently forbids it.

Twins and Yankees have quite a history and lately it hasn't been good. Yankees...from 1949 thru 1964 they won the AL pennant 14 out of 16 years..missing only 1954 (Indians) and 1959 (Go-go White Sox)

Who finally snapped this 'streak'? Twins of course, in 1965, with their best season ever.

Another random fact...how many teams have lost 3 WS in a row? Only 2..Detroit and the NY Giants going way back to 1907,08,09 and 1911,12,13. Since then there have been several teams that have dropped back to back WS...most recently the Dodgers, who could lose their 3rd in a row this year.

Strangely the WS of 1919,20, and 21 required 5 wins...as did the first WS in 1903.
