MLB Pipeline's Final 2019 Rankings

Not really big changes. Slightly disappointing year for Kirilloff, more disappointing for Lewis, and yet the movement in these rankings isn't major - this is all just guesswork anyway, despite state of the art analysis and scouting methods these days. Quite a slate of prospects in the top 100, and even if they don't all pan out, some will. I'm happy.

Nice to see Larnach make a jump up the list. Preseason not ranked, mid season 92, now 78.

Graterol from 68 (Preseason) to 54 is also a nice jump but I would have expected a little more of a climb considering what he has done.

Injuries and missed time causing the slide for Kiriloff and Lewis. After last year, many of us expected at least one of them to make the MLB team by now but injuries do that. Still look forward to seeing if either or both of them can break through in Spring Training.

Wait, What? Arraez still doesn't make the list? Guess they don't consider him a prospect anymore. Talk about nice break throughs.

I'm surprised that Graterol moved up the list given the ranking is based on him having a front-of-rotation ceiling...and he'll pitch a grand total of maybe 80 innings this year...and a good portion of that will have been as a reliever. No mention of him having been shut down. Bottom, line...I just think these rankings are just a quick edit of the existing and not a complete re-hashing of the pool. And, it's a fact that the stuff hasn't disappointed.

Disturbing to see another White Sox prospect right at the top (again). :)

Regarding Lewis: "He had a very positive year at shortstop defensively, showing a ton of improvement. There's still room for him to improve the consistency of his throws, but the Twins think he could be an above-average defender when all is said and done."

Seems like reports on his defense are all over the map...but me likey this report! If he's going to be above average at short (don't think I've heard that assessment previously), we don't need to worry quite as much about the bat.

There was less movement than I expected. CWS graduated two mega prospects in Jiminez and Cease, but still have a monster in Luis Robert knocking on the door. He's a 5-tool stud, maybe a half step more promising than Royce Lewis. Kopech is no slouch either, much more highly regarded than either Graterol or Balazovic.

After a couple/few years with very favorable draft positions, I would have expected KC, Detroit, and even CWS to overtake the Twins in terms of elite prospects, and they all added a couple of studs over the past two drafts in particular.

The Twins probably still have a fairly decided edge in depth over any of their ALC counterparts. This matters, because what emerges from these depths are players like Arraez this year and players like Garver and Rogers in previous years. The pattern of maintaining a deep pipeline has really been on display for the two teams in the division who subscribe to this strategy, Cleveland and Minnesota. Plesac, Civale, and Plutko have been huge for Cleveland, and we know how critical our depth has been for us.

They also have kept pace in terms of high-upside prospects. The Twins have 5 prospects on this Top 100 list, CWS 4, Detroit 4, KC 3, and CLE 3. So while the comparative quality of the pipelines has tightened, the Twins are in good but not necessarily great shape.

Nice to see we have 5 players in the top 100 which is more than any team in our division.  The position players are going to have a tough time breaking in as there are good players at pretty much every position now. I wouldn't move Kepler for Larnach.  I wouldn't move Polanco for Lewis right now either so those guys will have to be really good in AAA to earn a shot.  I wish we had more high end pitching than we do but hopefully Graterol and Balazovic work out well for us.  There are some guys further down with a chance to move up if they can take the next step.  So things still look good down on the farm.

I'd move Cron or Rosario for Kirilloff right now. Not that they are worth much other than money to sign pitching....

Right now meaning after the season

I agree but I bet they keep him down next year until he proves he can be consistently productive at a high level.  Since he doesn't have to be added to the 40 man he will have to force their hand to make it IMO.

Concur. I'd rather free up as much money for Cole and Odorizzi as possible though....
