Three under the radar moves that deserve credit

Falvine made three moves that are not discussed much that have turned out pretty good

Getting Littell for Jamie Garcia is looking better by the day

Getting Devin Smeltzer for two months of Dozier could end up being a huge steal

The last one is the best: getting Odorizzi for a middling prospect at a position of depth

I’m not as all in on Falvine compared to some but these were three shrewd moves.

Littell was actually acquired for Jaime Garcia (and by extension, Huascar Ynoa).

The Lynn trade got us Tyler Austin and Luis Rijo.

Thanks for the correction. I’ve edited the original post. The deal looks even better!

And don't forget that the Twins also got Raley in the Dozier trade with the Dodgers.  He was having a tremendous season at AAA before going down with a season ending injury.

I don't about "tremendous" -- only a 122 wRC+ with the juiced AAA baseball, no different overall than what he did in AA for the Dodgers the previous season. And that AAA performance looks even less sustainable, as it came with a Danny Santana-esque .403 BABIP (and 30.4% K rate).

Raley might still prove to be useful, of course, and it's a shame he got hurt. I suspect he gets a 40-man spot this offseason so we might see him next year.

The Odorizzi trade is an example of what they will need to do this offseason to help fill in the rotation.

On the Garcia/Littell trade, you also have to include the $4 million we ate in Garcia's contract.  We basically bought the prospect upgrade.  And it looks good now, but considering we made a playoff run and got to the wild card, I'm not sure if you want to make that type of trades in the future.  We may look back at the Dyson trade as a mistake this year in the long term, but when you are going for the playoffs, it's the type of trade teams need to make.

My hope when they gave the leadership to Falvey (and I think it is long passed time to give he and Levine the respect of their own names) he would find talent in pitchers in other organizations that wasn’t being realized.

Smeltzer, Littell and Odorizzi are all good additions at little cost. I am hopeful about Alcala, Duran and even Dobnak.

Falvey is going to need to be at the top of his game as he builds a rotation for next year. I don’t think he will do it entirely of established free agents.

Most teams aren't TB. It was a good move, no doubt, but that was a unique situation and shouldn't be counted on to be available again.
