Week 1: Vikings vs. Falcons

Nice showing from the Vikes.   Shut down running lanes early - I think Shamar Stephen has something to do with that.     Forced predictable passing downs and brought the heat...Barr was used as a weapon (finally!).   They will miss Alexander at slot for a while but maybe Hughes is soon ready to step in.   I was impressed by Waynes despite the late TD toss.    Liked his presence and physicality.   He's starting to play more like a 1st rounder IMO.

Didn't have to throw on offense as they found success running and kept on pounding it.    Great first game.    And they didn't even show very much leading into the GB game - one target to the TE's and little to the backs out of the backfield.    GB has little to prepare for on defense.

I'm confused by the statement that they were too run heavy yet not enough time elapsed.   Those are contradictory statements.   You want excitement and thrilling finishes?   Watch the Saints and their pinball last possession wins mentality.   I like the grind-it-out physicality that was on display as they essentially choked out the Falcons.

Boring.   Geez, leave it to Viking fans to find something wrong with that win.   Beyond the pale.   There are some really bad fans in Minnesota.   Sense of entitlement or something.   I don't know.

I always love it when fans tell other fans what they should like...

A win like that isn't sustainable. Throwing for 100 yards won't win many games. Relying on turnovers isn't going to win many games.

This was a comfortable win, and it was never really a contest. If the Vikes can get a bunch of pints off turnovers and win every game like this... I'd be fine with it. I think the criticism for taking the foot off the gas is fair. I'm more of a go for the jugular guy. I don't think conservative play wins the long game.

Right, playing it safe by running the ball when the opponent can't stop you while running down the clock is boring and unsustainable and somehow not going for the jugular.    Okay.    Maybe when you elevate to head coach, you can show us all how it's done.

I am absolutely certain that if Cousins got hurt (while sacked) while up 28-0 and slinging the ball, fans like you would second-guess and ask "why were we passing"?    I love to see these armchair QB's post as if they know better than everyone else.

Such criticism is misguided IMO.     But feel free to call Mike and explain to him his faults in that game.    Explain to him that you're the revolutionary who thinks that running the ball up four scores is unsustainable to winning.   Ha!    That's a good one.    Once again, disagree with you 100%.    At least you're consistent.

I think the point people are making is that you can't count on blocked punts and turnovers to make games this "easy"......and that teams like the Patriots would have kept the pedal to the metal.....a team this team could never dream about being as good as over the years.

Moderator's note: Even if this is "just a Vikings thread", TD's comment policy still applies. None of us here is likely to get the call from 2600 Vikings Circle in Eagan, so our opinions as fans are simply that, no more and no less. Disagree 100% with someone all you want, but don't make it personal like that.

I don't think Zimmer cares about what anyone says... for better or worse. You can disagree with me all you want, but the league isn't an environment where defense, running the ball, and passivity will win many games. It did this weekend. It might against the anemic offenses in the current nfc north... But that style of football is gone.

A game like is tough to form an opinion on a team. They walked away with the game.
